Yoruba self-determination rally begins in Ibadan

The Yoruba self-determination rally organised by the Ilana Omo Oodua is underway in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Hundreds of members of the group whose leader is an 86-year-old Emeritus Professor of History, Banji Akintoye, had initially scheduled the take-off of the rally for the ancient Mapo Hall but the heavy presence of armed policemen forced them to change the venue.

They are addressing people at Mapo Roundabout but they were not disturbed by the police in any way.

The agitators are armed with banners and Yoruba nation flags while leaders of the group addressing the people are saying Yoruba people are tired of staying with Nigeria.

One of the leaders of the group, Basorun Kunle Adesokan, said Yoruba were no longer part of Nigeria and the people want to be an independent nation.

He condemned the insecurity in Yorubaland, saying the people could no longer stand the injustice in Nigeria.

Adesojan said, “We are no longer part of Nigeria. Yoruba people are determined to stand alone. We are starting the rally here in Ibadan because this is the capital of the Yoruba nation.

” Our brothers in Kwara, Lagos, Kogi, Edo, Delta and other states are here. We are not going to use violence, we want the Yoruba nation. No retreat no surrender. Let Hausa go their way, let Fulani go their own way and Igbo people should also go.

“The rally has taken off, we won’t stop until we achieve our aim.”

One of the leaders of Itsekiri youths present at the rally, Isaac Ajatitan, said Itsekiri people were part of Yoruba and would support them to achieve this aim.

Agbodike Assures Multi-Purpose Event Centre As Awo Idemili Clan Holds End Of Year Party

The indigenes of Awo-idemili Clan in Orsu Local Government Area, Imo state held her end of the year party to celebrate God’s goodness on the clan including the appointment of her member, Chief Barr. Sir Cyprian Okechukwu Charles Akaolisa, an Owerri based legal practitioner, as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Imo state.

Declaring the Occasion open at the Civic Centre Project site, on Sunday, December 5, 2020 in Owerri, the Chairman of Awo-Idemili Progress Union(APU) Owerri branch, Barr. Norbert Onyebuchi Agbodike, who incidentally is an Owerri based legal practitioner emphasized on the need for the members to support the clan’s developmental initiative as well as the genuine drivers of this development.

 Barr. Agbodike reiterated that the idea of a Civic/Events Center project is a pragmatic step taken towards making the association self-sustaining, realizing the fall outs from the post-COVID-19 global economy. According to him, Leadership at best presently demands greater dynamism towards harnessing potentials to achieve massive wealth creation, and further, create a track for future generations- especially as numerous Awo-idemili sons and daughters make the capital city their choice destination. He quipped that a clan like Awo-idemili is suited to have a landmark project in the Imo capital city and declared his readiness to lift the fortunes of the association to an enviable height.

Obviously his call for support from the members towards completing the ongoing project elicited wild jubilation, with many applauding the bold steps of Barr. Agbodike and the passion to see the association take her pride of place in Owerri Capital City.

Also, he applauded the efforts of the Law Maker representing Orsu State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Chief Ekene F. Nnodumele, in his avowed commitment towards the development of the clan, including human resources.

Speaking on the association and the ongoing project as embarked upon, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief Barr. Sir C.O.C Akaolisa maintained that the landmark achievement of the present Awo-idemili clan leadership in Owerri would be the timely realization of the two-storey building event centre. He expressed optimism on the ability of Barr. Agbodike’s leadership to steer the ship of the association to successfully deliver on the project. Also, he enjoined the indigenes of Awo-Idemili Clan and other good spirited individuals to continue in their support to the present Shared prosperity administration as piloted by Governor Hope Uzodinma in Imo state.

On his own, Hon Ekene F. Nnodumele, representing Orsu State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly commended the Barr. Agbodike’s led the executive in her commitment to reposition the association in Owerri, and further create value for money through such a legacy project. He said that the call by His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodinma to Corporate entities and Donor agencies towards taking the opportunity in the friendly business environment in the state is what the Awo-idemili Clan in Owerri has answered. He enjoined good spirited indigenes and friends to support the realization of a multi-purpose event centre as designed.

Moreso, the President General of Confederation of Awo-idemili Clan Communities, Nze Anayo Onwuamaizu, commended the bold step taken by Awo-Idemili indigenes resident in Owerri. According to him, the present focus of the clan is on development and applauded the bold step taken by Owerri branch through the Barr. Agbodike led Exco.

Equally former Executive Chairman of Orsu L.G. A, Hon. Ndubuisi Okonkwo thanked the Agbodike led executive and the members for the support towards the landmark event center under construction.

The occasion attracted numerous persons including Mr. Terrance Onyejiaku, the S.A. to the Governor On ICT, Mr. Cyril Nwanojuo, Hon Paully Anyionu, Chief Alphonsus Nnaekezie, Mr. Linus Nnoruo, Mr. Izunna Okani (Chairman, End of the Year Party Committee), and others.

Umuna Celebrates New Yam Festival As Monarch calls For Uzodinma’s Support

The 2020 new yam festival of Umuna Autonomous Community may have come and gone but the memory associated with it would remain green in the sand of the soil.

It was one of the best outings in Umuna in the annals of the new yam festival of the community following the exhibition of varying cultural norms by various villages that make up the Autonomous Community.

Some of the cultural exhibitions include cultural dance displayed by women from the various villages amongst others.

The new yam festival which began with a pontifical mass at St Joseph’s catholic church Umuna by 10 am, climaxed at the palace of HRH, Eze Dr. Douglas Okwara, Okwarachukwu iv with other laid down activities after which heralded the new yam festival proper.

Addressing the mammoth crowd that graced the festival, Igwe Umuna who is also the chairman Isu Council of Traditional Rulers expressed gratitude to God for protecting both his subjects particularly against the dreaded coronavirus epidemic he said that never found its foot in the Land of Umuna.

He further hailed God over what he described as prosperity in Umuna despite general economic meltdown in the country.

Okwarachukwu who is present, chairman south East Association of Christian Traditional Rulers charged the people of Umuna and Orlu LGA in general to always place God first in all their endeavors pointing out that no man can amount to anything without assistance from God.

Imo Creativity Exhibition to become the best tourist destination in Nigeria- Perm Sec.

Ahead of the upcoming Imo Creativity Exhibition in April, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Creative Art, Culture & Tourism, Nna Gilbert has pledged his unalloyed support, maintaining that it will be one of the best tourist destinations in Nigeria if well packaged.

Speaking during an inspection to the Street Art Society gallery recently, he thanked the organizers for their efforts so far, reassuring them of the ministry’s full support in making the event a huge success.

In his words, “I am so impressed with the organizers and what I am seeing on ground. The ministry under my watch will support you for the enhancement and economic benefits of the state”, he submitted”.

Earlier in his speech, the CEO of Human Resources Development Consult, and the initiator of Imo Creativity Exhibition, Chuks Okereke disclosed that Imo has many talented and creative youths that need enabling environment to display what God has given them while reaffirming that the 3 days event will provide a platform to showcase the best of artworks, technological innovations, and metal fabrications.

 He, therefore, called on all relevant stakeholders to support this event which is targeted at creating employment opportunities for the teeming population of Imo youths.

The President  Art Street Artists Imo State, Mr. Ikebudu Cyriacus also used the medium to narrate some of their challenges, ranging from security, finance, electricity amongst others and appealed to the government for assistance in making the gallery serve its purpose.
