Sustaining your Vision
Text: Habakkuk 2:1-3
I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end, it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry (KJV).
Introduction: Everyone is created to be vision-driven. What gives you hope for your future is vision. Life progresses and destinies are fulfilled by the vision and also depreciates by lack of it( Proverbs 29:18). Vision is a time table of life’s progress and when you follow it diligently, it speaks for your greatness. In life, people misinterpret DREAMS TO VISION and vice versa.
DREAM is a series of images, events, and feelings in your mind while you are asleep. Sometimes what we see in a dream is unrealistic, empty, and irrelevant.
VISION is the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom.
It’s beyond dream. It is the revelation of the secret( Daniel 2:19). Vision is the birth of the future.
Vision is embodied with an idea, a goal, and aspiration. It is always true but follows a process; either you live to fulfill it or it gets fulfilled after you; depending on God’s timing and your involvement (action) towards it.
OFTEN ASKED QUESTIONS
1: Can a Vision expire or die?
2:What happens when one dies without fulfilling his vision
3: How can I know it is a true Vision?
We shall give answers to those questions towards the end of this message.
WAYS TO SUSTAINING A VISION
To sustain means to maintain or keep in existence.
Date/Time of the Vision ( Hab. 2:2)- Time moves to Life. Everything under heaven is governed by TIME. From creation, God first made use of time for us to emulate
N/B: When you receive a vision either through a dream or trance, write the date and the time you received it. Though you may not understand or interpret it at the onset, write it down first!
At the early stage of my ministry, I used to have a book that I record the date and time of Revelations received from God. With time some of them have come to pass.
2: THE CONTENT (Hab.2:2) This scripture command that you write it down i.e the content of the vision. You can only write what you can describe…….” that he that runneth may read it”.
What interests people and even you is not the date or time you received it but the content. Whether you understand it at the early stage or not, write it down. Joseph didn’t understand the content of the vision at his earlier age in Genesis chapter 37 until it began unfolding with time.
DATE/TIME OF FULFILMENT- The book of Ezekiel chapter 1-3 reveals the Vision of Babylonian exile by King Nebuchadnezzar. All of these came to pass. God also promised a time of freedom in Isaiah 40:2.
Therefore, every Vision needs documentation.
REASONS FOR DOCUMENTATION-Hab 2:2-3
1- For Notification and Remembrance. Vision needs to be revisited. When you write it down it stirs you up and also comes fresh in your mind as at the first time you saw it.
Listen to this story… A Bishop from the Eastern part of Nigeria had a vision about his present-day Church Cathedral in 1993. At that time he was poor and squatting in a room apartment with his family. So when he got the vision at about 3 am, he woke up and shared it with the wife, and in disbelief, the wife asked him to write it down so that they could sleep. He did so and about 15years later it became a reality.
2 – To remind God in Prayers. Prayers and hard work are two unavoidable elements in fulfilling the vision. When you pray, you’re reminding God to fulfill what he has shown you in a vision. The name of our church Hedge Builders Int’l Ministry Inc came as a vision. God showed me a scripture in Ezekiel 22:30 and as I woke up, he said to me ” undertake the task” so I wrote it down and in. This was in 2006 and in 2014 it became a reality.
3 – As evidence to yourself and people who may live to see the actualization and also to some other people that may argue the vision.
N/b: vision has owners; the receiver ( one whom it came through). There is vision you receive just for yourself and others that are meant for other people.
PROBLEMS/HINDRANCES TO VISION FULFILMENT ( Gen 37:1-11)
Many things are involved in the fulfillment and failure of vision. I believe these few points will help you.
1: Background/foundation- There is nothing that chokes a vision than background and foundation. An example is Jephtha in Judges 11:1-2 and also Joseph in Genesis 37. Until you conquer the powers of your background you can’t fulfill your vision because the forces will try to tell you nobody has achieved this in this place so you can’t! I have seen a young man who saw a vision of becoming the first graduate in his father’s house, finally, he got admission into a university after about 7 years of repeatedly writing exams but in his second year, he died.
2- Environment – Vision do not adapt to all environment. When you receive a vision, work towards studying and locating the place of its fulfillment. Don’t be a man who went to learn how to trade on motor spare parts and at the time of starting his own, he went and pay for a shop in the midst of those that sell foodstuffs and cosmetics on a claim that the rentage for motor spares are costly; so definitely his vision must crash. In some cases, the environment to achieve our vision must be expensive. Joseph was to fulfill his vision in Egypt not in Israel. So not until he gets there, nothing happens.
4: People- Your association determines your acceleration. Whom you follow to determine who follows you. In Isaiah 6:5, when God opened the eyes of Isaiah, he Cried when he realized he was in the midst of people with undone and unclean lips.
For you to fulfill your vision, look for the like. And the same goes for marriages. Marry a man or woman that has the same Vision with you.
5: Your Interpreter- the worst doom is to have an enemy interpret your vision. The person that interprets your vision matters a lot to your life. Be watchful of who you share your vision with and who interpret it. Some fellow may run ahead of you and publish it because they have the resources.
6: Yourself- your attitude definitely direct your vision. To have a vision is primary but the penultimate is to work towards it. In 2 Kings 2:1-18 is a story of Elijah and Elisha. Elisha was not the only son of the prophet but he knew his vision and future were in his hands.
Vision + Mission= FUTURE and Vision – Mission = MISFORTUNE
So every Vision is attached to some mission (work) to produce the future.
STEPS TO SUSTAIN AND FULFIL A VISION
To be able to sustain, let the vision drive you, allow it to persuade you, and give it thought and thorough work towards actualizing it. Whether in circular, the social or religious aspect of life follows these principles:
– Understand the Vision first
– Document it, write it down with date, time, and state the content.
– Pray always towards it.
– Get like – minds ” He may run that readeth it” those are the front runners of the Vision. They will understand it and pursue it with passion even though they are not the vision bearers.
– A good interpreter i.e a human guild to the vision. Either a Coach, Mentor, or Father.
– Be consistent. Don’t give up.
Answers to our previously asked questions
1: Yes vision expires and also dies. Because everything that has to do with time can expire or die off. Hold and pursue your vision accordingly.
2: In case the vision bearers die, there is a possibility of the vision being alive and that is why the Bible asked that you write it down so that people will understand it and run with it. There are visions that their time is meant to be fulfilled when the vision bearer has gone home. In vision fulfillment, there are some that bring the vision to the limelight while some actualize it.
3: a true vision appears very bigger than your imagination. Some put you in awe, fear, and also happiness. At this point what you need is prayers and focus and God will help you in Jesus’ name. Amen!
Let us pray…..
