The Mystery Of Godliness Part3

Text: 1 Tim 3:16

For weeks we have run the series on “The Mystery Of Godliness” and today’s edition would be to round off on the above topic.

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

This is a continuation of our previous topic on the Mystery of Godliness which we have handled for two weeks now. We shall look at the other Revelations of Godliness which would be a round-off on the theme, and they are:

Jesus is and was a man of the Spirit. His Conception and was by the Holy Spirit. After His birth, there was occasion of His justification by the Spirit. There are also prophecies to confirm His coming. Every other event in His Earthly work took a bearing from.

Isaiah  61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;  61:2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;  61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

So these stages of justifications were to confirm what Isaiah was inspired to prophesy.

1: At His Baptism ( Luke 3:21-22)

Luke  3:21 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,  3:22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee, I am well pleased.

Jesus was not the only person baptized by John but his’ was peculiar based on His assignments and that was why the Spirit descended on him to justify his coming as seen in the scripture.

2: Temptation at the wilderness ( Luke 4:1)

And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness. After the baptism, the Holy Spirit led him into the wilderness to fortify him for the task ahead.

3: By His Earthwork. He operated in the Spirit which gave room to His numerous miracles. Divine operations are Spiritual. That is why some of His reasons were always at the fullness of time example in John 2. When He performed His first Miracle.

4: His death and resurrection. You remember at the cross, the Spirit left him; but there was something unique in Romans 8:11 when the Spirit returned to justify His body.

Romans  8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

So the second revelation of the Mystery of Godliness which is His justification by the Spirit has to do with how the spirit bears witness about Jesus.

The word ‘justify’ means that something or somebody is reasonable. Let’s see the next Mystery of Godliness.

1 Timothy 3:16c SEEN OF ANGELS

Jesus’ Conception was declared by an Angel ( Matt 1:18-25). He was to be a Messiah as it came to the Virgin Mary.

Angels are Messengers or ministering Spirit Hebrews 1:14. They appear to people in old testament example Jacob ( Genesis 32:32)

They appear to Him to minister into him, maybe because it was the first time they needed to tell Him about the package of His Suffering and also to encourage him because to ‘ Minister’ according to the passage has to do with discussion and information.

N/b:  Angels are specifically not meant for Jesus but we. And that was why they appeared to him in few times.

– After temptation Matt 4:11

– When he was in the tomb John 20:12

– After resurrection John 20:1-7

– To blow the trumpet. Matt 24:31

These are times they appeared or would appear on his behalf. So Jesus is revealing Himself.

In first Timothy 3:16, the Apostle stands to say that the truth which he was about to state is of no dispute. So the Mystery I about the truth of God

1 Corinthians 2:7

But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto Glory.

The incarnation and the work of the Messiah which had been so long “kept hidden” from the word was a subject of the deepest importance.

Jesus is Preached to mankind as the only source of Salvation. He is to be Believed.

A Wall Of Partition

Before the coming of Jesus, a wall of partition had divided the Jewish and Gentile world. The Jews regarded the rest of mankind as excluded from the Covenant mercies of God.

Romans  10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.  10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.  10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.  10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?  10:15 And how shall they preach, except they are sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Jesus unites both the Jews and the Gentiles Ephesians 2:14-15. In Christ, there is no difference in tribe, complexion, or continent; we are all of one body and one Lord ( Jesus) Romans 3:22. The Apostles were sent to preach Christ to the world to whoever that might believe.

Acts  22:21 And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.

The Jews had no special advantage for salvation by being Jews and the Gentiles were not excluded from the hope of Salvation. The plan of redemption was adapted “to man” as such – without regard to his Complexion, country, customs, or laws. The love of Christ and His blood was shed for Romans 5:5, and wherever a human being could be found, salvation might be freely offered him. This is a glorious truth, it is a great privilege to be permitted to proclaim that all people in one respect and that they all are equally the objects of the Divine compassion that Christ died for one as really as for another.

This is also a great Mystery of Godliness on the fact of His manifest in the flesh (John 1:1-5), that He was vindicated by the Holy Spirit, His coming had broken the walls which had separated the world and placed them aright.

Just as we had earlier discussed that the works or Mystery of Godliness is six in number first Timothy 3:16, and six is the number of a man: which means that the revelation of Godliness is for mankind. On this one ‘ Received up into Glory’ talks about His Ascension to heaven having fulfilled the Earthwork assignment.

John  17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

This is mentioned as among the great or remarkable things pertaining to ‘godliness’ or the Christian revelation Acts 1:9 because it was an event which had not elsewhere occurred and was the crowning Grandeur of the work of Christ. No event of more importance has ever occurred in the universe, of which we have any knowledge than the reascension of the triumphant Son of God to Glory after having accomplished the redemption of the world.

Truly”without controversy, great is the Mystery of Godliness”
