Uzodinma Vows To Recover N19.63B LG Funds, Describes Okorocha’s Free Education As Scam

The Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodinma has vowed to recover every penny belonging to the state which is in the hands of the former Governors in the state.

This is even as he vowed to recover the alleged N19.63billion which was misappropriated by the immediate past administration led by Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha.

Governor Uzodinma who disclosed this last Friday during the stakeholders meeting in Owerri made it clear that he was ready to accept every kind of name by the opposition in the course of getting Imo right.

I cannot be a governor and watch few persons take hold of the commonwealth of Imo, he said.

Outlining his achievements governor Uzodinma re-affirmed the administration resolve to give Imo the much-desired governance which according to him has eluded the state pointing out that his administration now records N5billion naira monthly as IGR. Some of the achievements recorded by his administration within five months include the revival of the statesman newspaper, asphalting of many roads, amongst others.

On the alleged missing N19.63 billion which the Imo State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts is currently investigating, Uzodinma disclosed that he has received all sorts of names from the opposition even when the matter is only handled by the committee noted that he must recover the said sum, no matter where it is hidden.

Recall that Imo State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts chaired by Member Representing Oru West, Hon. Chigozie Nwaneri had upon audit report of the Auditor General of the Local Government which alleged that N16.63 Billion belonging to the Local Government was misappropriated moved into an investigation to ascertain, how the said sum belonging to the Local Government was misappropriated.

The said committee in the bid to unravel this had invited some of the people involved such as the Directors of Administration and General Services in the twenty-seven local governments of Imo as well as the treasurers.

Similarly, the Special Assistant to the former Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chukwudi Eze Mayor, the Regional manager Zenith Bank, Bank Road Owerri amongst others are to appear before the committee this morning for interrogation by the committee.

Meanwhile, Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, has faulted Rochas Okorocha’s claims that he introduced existing Free Education at Imo State University, Owerri and Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo.

The Governor said the so-called Free Education never existed on these campuses owned by the State as indigenous students still pay outrageous fees without conducive environments for teaching and learning.

The Governor made this revelation while addressing his cabinets during the celebration of Democracy Day on June 12, 2020, in Owerri.

He emphasized that there has never been anything as Free Education in Imo State, regretting that Okorocha used such a ploy to deceive the gullible people to enrich his pocket, as well as build his political structure without dully considering the social and financial status of the students and their parents.

According to Uzodimma,”no Free Education in Imo State University, Owerri and Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo. The so much talked about Free Education has not worked at all and Panel of Inquiry has been set up to deeply look into these false claims by Okorocha with a view to ensuring that quality education in the state is improved upon. Yes, my government is on course because I have come to set the pace for good governance, upholding rule of law and accountability”.

The Governor vowed that he would not leave any stone unturned to unravel those who used Free Education to defraud the State and thereby causing slow and hiccups to affordable and quality education.

Uzodimma, who reaffirmed that Imo Poly, Umuagwo, would be upgraded to the University of Agriculture and equipped henceforth alongside IMSU to enhance standard and effective academics among students, said agriculture and productivity are prime to his administration hence the inroad and revamping of Ada Palm and road construction.

While adding that his administration has achieved noble for a little time in office, Uzodimma promised that his regime is bent to provide social amenities for even development.
