Super Falcons Win First Match Under Coach, Randy Waldrum

The Super Falcons yesterday recorded a slim 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow Ladies at the ongoing Turkish Women’s Tournament in the city of Antalya.

It was also the first victory for new Head Coach, Randy Waldrum who signed his working agreement with the Nigeria Football Federation a day before the encounter.

The lone goal scored by Chinwendu Ihezuo at the Emir Sports Complex earned the nine-time African champions their first win since October 2019 when they lost the Olympics ticket to Cote d’Ivoire at the Agege Stadium in Lagos.

Nigeria capped Germany –based midfielder Patricia George and Spain-based Antoniette Payne, also a midfielder, in a match that Waldrum expressed his satisfaction with the overall performance of his charges.

Petite forward Francisca Ordega was outstanding in a game the nine-time African champions dominated play and created a hatful of chances.

The Super Falcons will now face Uzbekistan and Equatorial Guinea, with the Uzbeks in line for Saturday morning while their match with Nzalang National (two-time African champions) follows suite on Tuesday morning as they will aim to become the first African side to win the tournament.
