Imo Shadow Government has condemned in its entirety the dropping of Julius Berger for reconstruction of Owerri Orlu Road and Owerri Okigwe Roads.

Governor Hope Uzodinma had last Monday, flagged off the reconstruction of Owerri, Orlu, and Owerri Okigwe Roads.

This even as the same shadow Government condemned the sudden change.

One of the best construction companies in the world, Julius Berger for another company, the Craneburg Company Limited.

In a press release signed by the president of the group, Dr. Anthony Iroegbu, and made available to Lead, the group commended the Imo State Government for thinking it wise to reconstruct the two major Roads in Imo which according to the release have been in a sorry state but queried why the Governor relegated from his earlier promise to Imo people that he on behalf of the State Government has signed MOU with the Julius Berger to do the two roads.

Imo State Governor had a few months ago, informed Imo people that his Government had signed an MOU with the management of the Julius Berger to do the two major roads of Owerri Okigwe Road and Owerri to  Orlu Roads but surprisingly, Craneburg Construction Company is now doing the roads as against the earlier promise of the state government.

Describing the sudden change of the company to another one without any genuine reason on the side of Government as a disappointment and betrayed Iroegbu who contested keenly, the 2019 Governorship election in Imo, revealed that those two major roads given their importance in the state as the only roads that connect Imo to other states of the federation supposed to be done in such a way that it will stand the test of time and not like other roads done in Imo by the previous governments.

Imo people were happy and hailed the government of Uzodinma when he promised that Julius Berger would do these roads and now he changed his mind, he said.

Iroegbu however posited that though they said Julius Berger rate may be higher than others adding that what Government should focus on was the durability of the road they would give to Imo people as well as the employment the company will give to the unemployed youths in Imo and not the other way round.

While that was on, Unknown gunmen started causing havocs in the state which included destruction of Owerri Correctional Centre, the Imo state police command amongst others.

Iroegbu further revealed that the series of attacks both in Orlu by yet to be identified gunmen which led to loss of lives and properties, Ihitte Uboma,Oguta amongst others at the formation of the Uzodinma’s administration are capable of distracting a focused and determined Government yet Uzodinma to a reasonable extent is committed in moving the state forward, he said.
