Finally, reasons behind what could best be described as reasons behind the sudden withdrawal or appointment of HRH, Eze Emma Okeke as the Chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers by the state Government.
The Imo State Government had through the commissioner for Information, Declan Emelumba declared Eze Okeke as the Head of Traditional Institution in Imo.
While the said Eze was, still celebrating his appointment as the successor of the almighty Eze Samuel Agunwa Ohiri, the Obi of Orodo who after spending eight years as the chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers was still eyeing to take up another term, same Imo State Government through the same commissioner for Information, Declan Emelumba came up with another release which hitherto opined that Imo State Government had not appointed any person as the chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, the said Eze Okeke, the Traditional Ruler of Amaifeke Autonomous Community inclusive.
This release by Emelumba however calmed the nerves of frayed Traditional Rulers particularly those from Okigwe Zone who have been of the belief that the new Eze Imo seat would come to Okigwe Zone.
However, a source from the Government hinted Lead that the intention of the State government was to make Eze Okeke the new Chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers following the enactment of the new Law which now empowers the Governor of the state to appoint any person of his interest as the chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers but following the outcry in various quarters, the government came up the said timely release.
However, midweek Lead gathered that Imo State Government is most likely going to confirm Eze Okeke as the new chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers but that would be after the election of Okigwe Senate Election re-run which INEC is yet to issue time table for.
Although no reason was adduced by Lead as reasons behind the stand of the Government insinuations are rift that they may not be out of Government’s plan to ensure that its candidate wins Okigwe Senate polls anytime it holds.
This paper further gathered that Government is being careful and tactical in the appointment of Eze Imo and would not want a situation where some Traditional Rulers from Okigwe Zone may work against the Government’s candidate if a particular person is not appointed as the new Eze Imo.
