WELCOME HOME BROTHER!! SENATOR ORJI UZOR KALU; LONG WALK TO FREEDOM.
As the former Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo stepped out from the correctional centre in the post-Abacha era and was elected president of Nigeria under the PDP. Let’s see what future holds for the HEROE of Igbo Nation, our brother Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, as he steps out of the Abuja correctional centre, thanks to the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos’s order for the release of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. I am simply making a personal point. I am ashamed to see fellow Igbo citizens congregate at the Natural Assembly complex front gate, not to celebrate the release from court of one of them, even if Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has committed unforgivable sins. Behold one of the future leaders of this nation. Take it. leave it.
They congregated to bury Ceasar and not to praise him. Their only problem was to urge the National Assembly to declare Orji Uzoh Kalu’s seat vacant. They were entitled to their right. I am not and can never question their fundamental right to free speech. Igbo men and women of goodwill are shocked. They are ashamed of this shameful outing and outburst. Is this the Igbos they are talking about? Where lies the brothers’ keepers slogan? Are these really Igbos of Late Dr Nnamdi Azikwe and that of Late Dr Michael Okpara (Mike Power) and Dr Sam Mbakwe PhD. Are these the Igbos of Chief RBK Okafor? Are these the Igbos of Sir Louis Odimegwu Ojukwu of the blessed memory? Was it not a shameful outing to have seen fellow Igbos barricade the National (Assembling complex only to demand the vacating of the seat of their former Governor. Quite unbelievable. Such cannot happen in the Yoruba Nation or in the Arewa Nation or Ijaw, Ogoni, Igala, Nupe, Gwari, Fulani, Efik Nations.
Till date, the ABACHA loot is still being returned to the National Treasury. Till date, the over twelve billion dollars for the fixing of the energy of the Nation has been a subject of debate and has developed wings. The Nigerian Nation in Naira terms has received not less than 86 trillion Naira of Abacha Cash. I am not in support of non-transparent or accountable governance by any Chief Servant of any state, but the legal maxim has been an accused is presumed innocent till pronounced guilty by the court of competent jurisdiction.
Ladies and Gentle Ndi-Igbo, from the Daily Sun of Wednesday, June 3, 2020, front page. “KALU Free at last. Ex-Abia Governor to leave prison soon as court orders him Freedom”. Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court, Lagos has ordered the immediate release of former Abia State Governor, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, from the correctional centre. The order was a sequel to the granting of an application filed, by Kalu to secure his freedom following the judgement of Supreme Court which nullified his trial and conviction over alleged N7.1 billion fraud.
In his judgement, Justice Liman held that the application was meritorious and that he was found by the judgement of the Supreme Court. The consequently ordered the immediate release of Kalu from the Kuje correctional centre, where he is currently being detained. Prior to the ruling, the court had heard arguments from parties in the matter”. In his arguments, Kalu’s Lawyer, Prince Lateef Faghemi (SAN), urged the court to grant his clients prayers saying the application was a fall-out of the judgement delivered by the Supreme Court on Monday, May 8, 2020. This is an application brought under section 159 of the administration of criminal justice Act. (ACFA) 2015. It was a fall-out of the supreme Courts judgement on the 8th of May 2020. I adept and rely on all the processes in urging my Lord to grant the application. Responding, EFCC’S Lawyer, Rotimi, Jacob’s (SAN) said he is not opposed to the granting of the application. He, however, sought an accelerated retrial of the case as ordered by the supreme court. we are not opposing the application in principle. But, we are also urging the court to order that the trial De novo, the order of the supreme court is complied with by all parties. We urge the court to give a new trial date. In the motion on notice for charge No FHC ABJ/CR 56/2007, Kalu is asking the court to set aside order his trial over alleged N7.1 billion fraud and subsequent conviction by Justice Mohammed Idris. (now of the court of appeal).
The former governor argued that there was no legal basis for his continued incarceration because the supreme court had on May 8, 2020, declared his trial a nullity and freed this co-defendant, Jones Udeogu”.
Welcome Brother, it is not very easy to gain the freedom I am not in support that the Laws of the land should be trampled upon. I am not encouraging a former Chief Servant of a state not to be probed to find out how his administration faired in the scale of justice. But I am celebrating the release of Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, His Excellency, the Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic, a Nigerian one who has recently returned from Venezuela where he brought a message from the Venezuelan president to Mr President Buhari. I am celebrating Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, the bridge builder, the man who mixes freely with all the tribes of Nigeria, the future hope of the Nigerian Presidency of Igbo extraction. Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, the man who goes first, always in the fore-front, a role model. A true Igbo, you are welcome brother!
