Foremost Educationist and accomplished Academic Prof Obioha Chima Nwana (more popularly known as Prof. O.C Nwana) passed on in the United States, Prof Nwana.
Born 1934 in Eluoma, Isukwuato, he was educated at the University of London, University of Legon in Ghana, University of Sydney in Australia and the University of Ibadan U.I (where he obtained his Phd) respectively.
He started his academic career at Nigeria Premier University, the U.I, rising to become a Professor of Education before he was 40. He was a Professor Emeritus at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the Imo State University Owerri respectively. He was also visiting Professor at the University of Wales, Cardiff UK as well as the Abia State University.
In the course of his career as a professional educator, he was bestowed with several awards, including, Fellowship of the Nigeria Academy of Education (FNAE), Fellowship of the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (FSTAN), Merit Award of the National Teachers Institution (Merit NTI) amongst others.
An ardent culturalist, a repository of Aro heritage and history, he is at home with all the major Igbo dialects. He holds traditional titles of Ugwu Aro, Omekaibeya of Arondizuogu, Okenwa Ideato and Okaa Nkuzi of Nsukka.
His father Rt Rev Chima Nwana OFR was the 1st ordained Igbo Methodist Priest. Prof Nwana himself was a Knight of John Wesley of the Methodist Church and Knight of St Christopher in the Anglican Church.
He has authored many books , notably Educational Research for Teachers, Evaluation and Measurements , History of Arondizuogu, Memoires of an Insider etc
Prof Nwana has in the past been Chairman, National Library Board, Director, Curriculum Development and Instructional Materials Center (CUDIMAC), Director, Nigeria Educational Research Council (NERC), Chairman, Interim Council of the Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Enugu, Board Member, Nigeria Teachers Institute (NTI) Zaria, Chairman, Presidential Special Visitation Panel to University of Lagos, Chairman, Imo State, Scholarship Board, Chairman, Investigation Panel on Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Member, East Central State Education Commission, Member, Investigation Panel on ABU, Member, East Central State Scholarship Board.
He will be buried on the 18th of December, 2020, at his Ndianiche Country Home in Arondizuogu, Imo State.
He is survived by Prof Mrs O.C Nwana, children and several grandchildren.
