Former Governor of Imo State and Senator representing Imo West in the National Assembly, Senator Rochas Okorocha has again called on Imo State Government to stop claiming ownership of the Eastern Palm University which it recently changed its name from Eastern Palm University to Mbadiwe University, Ogboko.
In a press release signed by Okorocha’s Media Adviser, Sam Onwuemeodo and made available to Lead, the former Governor while describing the government stands on his properties in the state as witch-hunting, maintained that there is no KO Mbadiwe University Ogboko rather Eastern Palm University which according to him belongs to Rochas Foundation.
Okorocha was reacting to the announcement by the Imo State Government that academic activities would begin by July 5 in the school after few months the institution was closed down.
Imo State Government had through the report of the panel set up by the short-lived administration of Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha as Governor changed the name of the Eastern Palm University Ogboko on the grounds that the said campus was built with Imo State funds during the regime of Senator Rochas Okorocha as the Governor of Imo State.
According to Okorocha, the Imo State Government ought to wait for the court to give judgment on the ownership of the citadel before laying claim on it.
Okorocha had before the elapse of his administration in 2019, informed Imo people that the said institution was built in partnership with Imo State pointing out that while Rochas Foundation has 90% ownership, the Imo State Government has 10%.
The said Okorocha further disclosed the readiness of the Rochas Foundation to buy the remaining 10% of the state anytime the State Government feels like.
