…Majority Leader, Onuegbu describe act as road day robbery
On-going recovery of former Governor of Imo State Senator Rochas Okorocha’s properties appears to have taken another dimension as the leader of the Owerri zone have backed the state government in its effort to recover the said properties.
This is even as the majority leader Imo State House of Assembly Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi and the Imo State Commissioner for Lands, Barrister Enyinna Onuegbu have described the action of Okorocha as a broad day robbery of Owerri people.
Addressing the people in a meeting termed, “Owerri Leaders of Thought” held at the Rockview Hotels over the weekend, Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi, the Member Representing Owerri West in Imo House of Assembly and Chairman House Committee on Lands commended the State Government led by Uzodinma for coming to rescue of Imo people and Owerri zone in particular, adding that over 40% of the land converted by Okorocha belongs to the people of his constituency.
Onyemaechi who called on the people of Owerri zone to support Uzodinma’s administration assured them of the readiness of the 9 Imo Assembly to support the State Government in the recovery mission.
In his speech, the commissioner for Lands, in Imo Enyinna Onuegbu who also hails from Owerri Zone charged all Owerri zone people irrespective of the party to support the move by the Uzodinma led administration to return to Owerri people what he termed illegally acquired land by the Okorocha’s family.
Onuegbu while saluting the courage of Uzodinma in implementing the recommendations of the panel despite the fact that the said Okorocha hails from same zone with him accused Okorocha of converting over 65 hecters of land at the IBC staff quarters in Orji to his private Rochas Foundation University, an act which he said had sent thousands of retirees of the IBC into untimely grave.
Onuegbu further revealed that Rochas Foundation collected compensation from the Imo State Government as a part of owners of land where the converted MIC Mbadiwe University is situated and at same time claiming that the college belongs to Rochas Foundation.
Describing Okorocha led administration as a setback to Imo people, Onuegbu called on Owerri people to remain supportive of the present administration which according to him means well for them.
Earlier in his speech, the chairman of the occasion, Chief Henry Njoku revealed that the meeting was across party lines adding that everyone Owerri man should support this agendum of restoring their properties irrespective of party affiliation.
Present at the event include Ambrose Ejiogu, Imo Deputy Governor, Placid Njoku, Philip Ejiogu, Member Representing Owerri North in Imo House of Assembly, Former Speakers Imo State House of Assembly, Dikeocha Kelechi Nwagwu amongst others.
