The Transition Committee Chairman of Owerri Municipal local government area, Chief Sir Ambrose Nkwodimma has sensitized his people on the need to stay safe and avoid being infected by the dreaded Coronavirus disease otherwise known as COVID 19 and has distributed preventive materials such as hand washing buckets and sanitizers to all the communities in the LGA.
The event which held at the Municipal council recently attracted all stakeholders and village heads of the communities as well as the Senior Special Assistant SSA to the governor of Imo State on entertainment and Public enlightenment, Hon. Arinze who flagged off the campaign.
Addressing the stakeholders during the event, Chief Ambrose Nkwodimma thanked them for honoring his invitation adding that he will tour the villages to sensitize the people on the danger of infecting the COVID 19 virus and how to remain safe. He said that gift items such as sanitizers and handwashing buckets will be distributed to all the communities in Owerri Municipal council to help in stopping the spread of the dreaded virus.
Chief Nkwodimma who started by demonstrating how to use the materials said you will wash your hands for twenty minutes from the bucket with running water and then apply the hand sanitizers before engaging in any activity and that it should be done regularly.
The Senior Special Assistant SSA to the governor of Imo State on entertainment and Public enlightenment, Hon Arinze Nwokedi while flagging off the campaign emphasized the need to wash hands regularly, maintain social distance while interacting with people, avoid crowded places, stop handshakes, and body contacts as it is the panacea to containing the spread of the pandemic.
He also noted that the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma is determined to fight the entrance of the virus to the State hence the regular sensitization programmes across the state. Hon Arinze noted further that the government will surely distribute relief materials and other palliatives in no distant time to the people of the state but enjoined them to obey the rules governing the spread of the virus.
The Head of Department HOD Public health, Owerri Municipal, Mrs. Lucia Mezu said, many people all of over the world have died of this Coronavirus disease and many others infected and enjoined the people to observe total cleanliness of their environments and obey all the rules stipulated by World Health Organisation WHO and the Imo State government. She said, they should always wash their hands regularly for 20 minutes and apply alcohol-based sanitizers and avoid crowded places. She enjoined them to disseminate the information to their communities.
Responding after receiving the gifts from the TC Chairman, the village head of Owerri Municipal, Chief TOS Oparaugo thanked the chairman for the gifts and promised him that they will make maximum use of it. He also prayed God to bless Chief Nkwodimma with long life and prosperity.
The highlights of the event included the touring and distribution of materials to all the communities. They are Umuororonjo, Amawom, Umuonyeche, Umuodu and Umuoyima communities. Also Hausa and Yoruba communities.
Dignitaries include Mr.P.C.Ugba Director of Admin and General Sevices DAGS, Chief TOC Okparaugo Village head Owerri Municipal, Alhaji Awolle Suleiman, Sarakin Hausa, Oha Owerri, Oha B.O.Anukam, Onyeishi Oha Owerri Ndom, Lady Emenyeonu, the Youth Chairmen of the five villages of Owerri, Hon. Stanley Anebere Personal Aide to the TC Chairman. Others include Chief TOS Oparaugo Umuororonjo village head, Chief Dennis Dike Amawom, High Chief Herbert Mere Umueche village, Chief Ikeafuaku Anozie Emeto, Chief Cyril Ukaegbu Umuoyima village and Oba Kola Ogundikpe Yoruba Community, among others.
