The Indigenes as well as strangers in Orlu Local Government now sleep with one eye open as ‘Okada’ riders turn their ‘okada’ into robbery tool.
Available information to our desk revealed that on a daily basis, different people are robbed of their belongings particularly raw cash.
Speaking to Lead, one of the victims of the robbery attack, a native of Amaigbo who resides in Umuna revealed that he was traced from the bank, the First Bank close to Total Filling Station by two men on ‘Okada’ after collecting money from the said bank back to his house. Upon collecting the sum which he put inside his car, on getting to his house, he was surrendered by the two men on Okada with guns, before he could drop a word, they had left with the money.
In same vein, a woman who gave her name as Nneoma Emeagi informed Lead that on Monday 11th May, she was traced from the Diamond Bank now Access Bank from the International Market in Umuna Orlu to her House, Owerri Ebeiri where three hundred thousand she collected for a building project was snatched from her.
Speaking on the best way to ameliorate these crimes, the Traditional Ruler of Umuna Ancient Kingdom, HRM Eze Dr. Douglas Okwara appealed with the state Government to beef-up security in the area.
Okwarachukwu who is the chairman Isu Clan Council of Traditional Rulers while commending the efforts of the Interim Management Committee Chairman of Orlu LGA, Hon. Mrs. Ifeoma Ndukwu advised the State Government to look into the creation of job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths pointing out that most of the persons engaging in these crimes are jobless youths and sometimes graduates.
He further used the forum to call on the unemployed youths to learn skills to enable them to get engaged instead of waiting endlessly for white cola-jobs which according to him is neither there no here.
