Oru East Begins Skills Acquisition Programme For youths

Poised at keeping the youths of the Local Government off crime, restiveness, and make them self reliant, the IMC Chairman of the Local Government Nze  Nyerere Ogbonna has commenced a skill acquisition training programme for youths.

Flagging off the programme, the commissioner for Entrepreneurship and Skills Development, Hon Noble Atuegwu, who was represented by the Special Adviser to Imo State Governor, Elder Aloysius Nnawugo, urged the participants to make good use of the opportunity, stressing that it will help them now and in the future. He noted that it is a wonderful opportunity for them to live right and become self-employed.

He enjoined them to pay attention and take the training seriously, stressing that the days of everyone rushing for white-collar jobs are gone. He thanked the wife of the Chairman who came up with the idea.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the IMC Chairman Nze Nyerere Ogbonna, thanked the governor who gave him the opportunity to serve the people of Oru East. He disclosed that he came up with the idea to enable the youth to acquire skills for self-enhancement and economic benefits, especially in the changing world order. He encouraged all the participants to take the training seriously, revealing that the program was borne out of their desire to support the state in her shared prosperity in order to curb youth unemployment and restiveness in the society.

He expressed optimism that at the end of the programme, the lives of the teeming youths who took the training seriously will never remain the same again and wished them well in the course of their training. He thanked his wife for coming up with the idea.

Contributing, the Chairman of Oru East Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Eze Barr Christian Amukamara, noted that the project is laudable, disclosing that in the past it was usually said without being fulfilled. He thanked the Chairman and his wife for the initiative and urged the youth to make good use of the opportunity availed to them.

Also speaking, the Coordinator of the programme, Mr. Soronnadi Justice, stated that the programme is a life-changing opportunity that will inspire the youth to achieve personal growth, self-knowledge and acquisition of new abilities. He however warned against all forms of laxity, dishonesty and any conduct that will undermine the programme.

In his remark, the Director of Administration and General Services of the Local Government, Mr. Ihesinaulo Mbadiwe Placid, lauded the initiators of the programme. Lending her voice, the wife of the IMC Chairman, Mrs. Ogechi Ogbonna thanked God for granting her such opportunity, disclosing that she has been longing for an opportunity to train the youth so as to make them useful to themselves, their families and the society. She thanked the state governor distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma and his husband for giving her the rare opportunity to train youths.

Responding on behalf of the participants, miss Onuwa Amarachi thanked the Chairman for the opportunity given to them and promised that they will put to practice all that they will learn.

The packages for the skills acquisition training are the production of toiletries, soap making, paint making, catering, fashion designing as well as animal husbandry.

Change Security Chiefs , Wike Urges FG

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has approached the Federal Government to change the Security Chiefs to give space for new thoughts and methodology in handling the dangers of internal security.

“Our dearest nation is still together, existing and waxing stronger as one unified, free, and democratic nation in light of your responsibility and sacrifice to its solidarity and progress.


“As Nigerians, our collective desire is to have a nation where we would all be able to live in solidarity, freedom and security. A nation where our kids and grandkids can live in relative comfort and take a stab at a more promising time to come,” he expressed.


Governor Wike expressed the need to have a lasting reward framework for officers and men of the Armed Forces to encourage them in their sacrifices to the nation.

He said his administration has kept on executing such financial support strategy for security personnel of Rivers origin as a result of the worth it puts on the selfless sacrifices they make to keep Nigeria united and in harmony.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has announced the death of one of its own, the President of the Nigeria Christian Graduates Fellowship, NCGF, Prof. Charles Adisa.
In a statement made available to the media today and signed by CAN President, Rev. Samson Ayokunle,Prof. Adisa will be greatly missed by CAN as he will always be remembered for his contributions to the Christian fight for the restoration of the teaching of the Christian Religious Knowledge in public schools, the fight against the controversial RUGA settlements, the Companies and Allied Matters Act, CAMA, and the federal government’s lopsided appointments.
