In a bid to alleviate the hardship among the people of Orlu LGA as a result of the “Stay Home” order as directed by the Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Odidika Uzodinma (Onwa Oyoko) due to the dreaded Coronavirus that is ravaging the whole world, the Chairman, Interim Management Committee, IMC, Orlu LGA, Hon. Chief Mrs. Nneoma Ifeoma Ndukwu (Ugosinachi), has commenced the sharing of food items and cash as palliatives to the people of the area.
This is even as she used the opportunity to sensitize them on the best practices to avoid contracting the virus.
At the palace of HRH Eze Victor Nnamdi Ugballa, the Eze Ugo IV of Okporo, the IMC Chairman, noted, they were in the palace to present food items as palliatives to the people of Ohaeke Okporo ward and to sensitize them on the COVID-19 pandemic that is ravaging the world, even while she described the Eze Ugbala as a learned personality with wisdom, understanding, and capacity to lead the people, saying, she also came to tap from his wealth of experience in management and administration.
She told them that the Sharing of palliatives and cash which commenced last Sunday was donated by the Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma (Onwa Oyoko), even as she appealed to them not to see the “Stay Home” directives as hatred by the Governor, but as a way of making everyone to stay alive, pointing out, it is only the living that will see the goodness of God.
Nneoma Ndukwu, further informed that the distribution of the palliatives was being done in conjunction with the member representing the good people of Orlu Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Chief Paschal Chukwukaodinaka Okolie (Ebekuodike), who happens to come from the ward and a native of the community in particular. She described Hon. Okolie as a man of honor and dignity, whose effective representation has really affected the people positively.
Furthermore, she revealed, her preference for handing over the palliatives to the traditional rulers was because of their positions as the custodians of the culture and tradition of their communities through the members of Interim Management Community, IMC, representing their various wards.
Nneoma Ndukwu, who is also, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor of Imo State, noted, the COVID-19 pandemic is real and should not be taking for granted. She said every effort is being made to stop the virus from entering into Imo state, not to talk of being contacted by any indigene or resident of Orlu LGA.
Furthermore, she appealed for patience among indigenes and residents of the area, saying, the directive to stay home was done in good faith, informing, it was a step in the right direction.
Nneoma Ndukwu advised them to wash their hands with soap under running water, regularly, use alcohol-based sanitizers, observe social distancing and advised them on the need to avoid burials, churches and other forms of activities that will attract the crowd.
She frowned at those who claim that they cannot stop going to churches due to the virus, but reminded them, it was only the living that would praise or worship God.
The indefatigable Chairman, appealed to the monarch to make sure the food items were shared to the vulnerable and many others across party affiliations, adding, the directive was from the Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma, who she described as the Governor for everyone.
Responding, the traditional ruler, HRH Eze Victor Nnamdi Ugballar, appreciated the visit to his palace, saying, it was an honor to him and the entire community.
He pledged to make sure the items were shared accordingly and told him to further extend their appreciation to the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, who has in his magnanimity decided to assist the masses with some food items and cash during this critical period.
The monarch also expressed happiness on the recent appointment of Hon. Humble Ekechukwu Okonkwo as the member representing the Ohaeke Okporo ward in the Interim Management Committee, IMC, Orlu LGA. He said the appointment was well deserved and in conformity of the rotational agreement for political offices in the ward.
Eze Ugballa, who was a Secretary to the Government of Imo State(SGI), also eulogized the IMC Chairman, Hon. Chief Mrs. Nneoma Ndukwu for her diligence, doggedness, and uprightness in her dealings with people, even before her recent appointment, which he described as a “round peg in a round hole”.
At the palace of HRH Eze Stephen Okeke, Durukoma IX and Obi of Ihioma in Ebenese/Umuezennachi ward, the IMC Chairman, Hon. Chief Mrs. Nneoma Ifeoma Ndukwu was introduced to the Traditional Ruler by the member representing Ebenese/ Umuezennachi ward in the Interim Management Committee of Orlu LGA, Hon. Engr. Bright Onyekachi Achinike, who noted the leadership capability of the Chairman, even as the Regional President of Catholic Women Organization, CWO, Orlu Diocese.
The Chairman in her remarks revealed that the community is her maternal home, stating, her appointment as the Chairman of Orlu LGA was a divine package, pledging, she would not disappoint the people as their chairman by the grace of God.
She described Eze Stephen as an outstanding monarch whose peaceful disposition endeared him in the hearts of his subjects and beyond, adding, it is the traditional rulers that take the supplications of the people to God.
She asked the Eze to thank the Governor of Imo state, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma, for finding her worthy of the appointment.
On the issue of the COVID-19 pandemic, the council boss informed, Governor Hope Uzodinma as a listening governor, donated some food items and cash as palliatives to every community in the state, revealing, such had not happened in Imo State in the last 10 years, just as she told them of the importance to appreciate the kind gesture no matter how little.
She opened up on, the donations of more food items like bags of rice, cartons of Tummy Tummy noodles, sanitizers, buckets among others were done by Hon. Chief Paschal Chukwukaodinaka Okolie (Ebekuodike), the member representing the people of Orlu Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Owerri, who she noted was working hands in gloves with the Governor in the interest of Orlu people and the state at large. She further told them to practice most of the things aimed at keeping the COVID-19 pandemic away from Orlu LGA and the State in general.
HRH Eze Stephen Okeke expressed happiness over the visit and also thanked her for the items donated by the Governor to cushion the effect of hunger as a result of the “Stay Home” order by Senator Hope Uzodinma, the Governor over the COVID-19 pandemic.
Highlights of the visits were the receiving of Royal blessings by the IMC Chairman, Hon. Chief Mrs. Nneoma Ifeoma Ndukwu from Eze Ugballa and Eze Okeke respectively, the washing of hands with soap under running water among others by the Chairman and the Traditional Rulers accordingly to demonstrate some of the practices on the fight against COVID-19.
