It was commendations galore for Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State from an array of dignitaries who graced his one year in office anniversary yesterday in Owerri
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo leading the top dignitaries at the occasion praised the governor for his achievements in office in one year, just as he admitted to Nigeria’s numerous challenges
The vice president disclosed this yesterday in Owerri, the Imo State capital during a church service at the Dan Anyiam stadium to commemorate the one year in office of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
According to him, “the Nation is passing through challenges but in the midst of these challenges, we have done a lot and we are mightier than the challenges.”
Meanwhile, the vice president has lauded the achievements of governor Uzodimma who he said has done well within just a year of his administering the State, just as he has predicted that he would go far in his political career.
Osinbajo in his speech at the ceremony showered encomium on Uzodimma who he particularly commended for constructing solid roads and other massive infrastructure in the State.
“It is a thing of pleasure to join Imo people in this church service to mark one year anniversary of my brother the governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodimma, the hope of Imo State, since the state was created in 1976, since then there have been 16 governors and you are the sixtheen.
“You are here as governor of Imo State, by the grace of God. God says he honours those who honour him. How you can honour God is to serve your people honestly.
“Your administration has invested heavily into solid infrastructure which includes, roads construction of up to 46 roads. I have been told that this year budget of Imo state is tagged budget of wealth creation and that’s apt, with what we are seeing you have planned to take Imo to higher level of prosperity.
“There are three opposition, You, Political opposition and time. All these, depends on how you manage them you will go far.
Also, the Senate president, Ahmed Lawal in his remarks corroborated the commendations of the vice president on Uzodimma. He said “I served with Uzodimma, at the Senate and his very reliable and someone you can trust. He is one you can’t find wanting, when Uzodimma, became governor I knew Imo will be taken to the next level because of his capacity to deliver.
“Uzodimma plays center politics and we want others to learn from him. We are expecting Abia and Enugu to be onboard. Buhari does not discriminate he works with everybody. The Senate and the national Assembly will always be on your side to support the development of Imo State.
in his address, Governor Uzodimma vowed to utilize the resources of the State to better the living condition of the people, just as he equally promised to continue delivering on his campaign promises.
“Today reminded us the long way we have travelled to get back our votes, the battle from the forces of darkness fought me to deny me my victory at the poll, however, Imo people appreciated the hand of God in restoration of my mandate. That is why we are starting this anniversary with church service.
“My covenant with God is that I will make this state and our people better than we met the state. I am not governor to boast that I am richer than the state and to acquire illegally the properties of Imo people
“When I took over office, I was not given any hand over note but I do know that I was not elected to give excuses. I must tell you one year after, we have not failed Imo people.
We have restored confidence in governance, and in just one year we have dramatically changed the narrative by constructing solid and world class roads.
“The days of lawlessness is over we have restored democracy and we are able to clean up the frauds in the civil srevice system and more things positively will be done.”
Present at the church service marking the one year anniversary, were the Senate President, Ahmed Lawal, Deputy Senate President, Omo Agege, Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Idris, governors of Lagos, Babatunde Sanwolu, Yaya Bello, Kogi, Kayode Fayemi, Ekiti, Dave Umahi, Ebonyi and Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni.
Others are former governor of Imo state, Ikedi Ohakim, former governor of Abia, Senator Theodore Orji, Former governor of Borno, Ali Modu Sheriff, serving and former Senators, House of Representatives members as well as the wife of the former President of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan.
Meanwhile, the Imo State governor Senator Hope Uzodinma has said he came to free Imo people from the political slavery not to be richer than the state.
The governor who made this assertion during his one year Anniversary celebration on Sunday 14th March, 2021 explained that his purpose of been the state governor was not to forcefully grab people’s properties or loot the state treasury but to liberate the people from those who kept them under slavery .
The program which started with an interdenominational Church Thanksgiving at Dan. Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, Imo State organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN).
The program attracted political leaders from the Presidency, National Assembly, Governors from other states, National leadership of the party, Religious leaders from different denominations, state Assembly, Government appointees among others too numerous to mention.
The Church Thanksgiving Service was celebrated by His Lordship, Archbishop AJV Obinna, the Archbishop of Owerri Catholic Archbishop and a host of other Bishops in the Catholic Church and Bishops from other denominations.
The state governor assured the people of the state good days ahead just as he promised not to offend God but to be purposeful in the discharge of his duties as the governor.
He further promised to restore the confidence of the people in the government even as he boosted that he has liberated the people from their enslavement.
During his speech, the Vice President who represented President Muhammadu Bihari described Governor Uzodinma as the “Hope of Nigeria“, adding that Uzodinma became the governor by the special grace of God. He further explained that it is wise to give thanksgiving to God for making him the 16th executive governor of the state since its creation in 1976.
The Senate President His Excellency Senator Ahmed Lawan in his speech pointed out that the presence of the Presidency, National Assembly signified the governor’s good relationship with the government at the center as he called on the people of the state and south east to rally round Governor Uzodinma to access the benefit of the government at the National level.
Other political leaders present included the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the Deputy Chief whip of the Senate Abdullahi Sabi among other principal officers of the Senate.
Others include the Yobe State governor Mai Mala Buni, Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ebonyi State governor Dave Umahi, Ekiti State governor John Olukayode Fayemi, Governor of Kogi State Yahaya Bello and other governors. The wife of the former President Dame Patience Jonathan,

Uncertainty over Imo LG polls, as ISIEC suspends tours over insecurity
Imo LG elections may not be coming up anytime soon as Imo State Independent Electoral Commission has suspended indefinitely, the ongoing Local Government tours.
Although, the commission at the time of filing this report had not given reasons behind sudden stoppage of the ongoing tours of the Local Government but a source close to the commission hinted Lead that the tour was stopped over rising insecurity occasioned by spate of attacks in the state.
The commission which had covered seventeen out of the twenty seven local Governments in the state had the plans of meeting with the stakeholders in the various Local Governments on the best date for the Local Government polls before the outbreak of the series of attacks in Imo.
Governor Hope Uzodinma had upon assumption of office appointed the chairman and members of the ISIEC, charged them to see to the conduct of a free and fair election in the Local Governments.
The commission in compliance with the directives of the Governor has carried out some modalities which include returning the political wards into the 305 in accordance with the Imo State law amongst others.

We won’t watch Imo become killing field, says APC
The All Progressives Congress – APC has condemned the attack by some hoodlums in the state of the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma.
The party went further to condemn the attacks on police properties, personnel and formations in Abia, Imo, Ebonyi and Anambra states.
While responding in a statement signed by the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning, John James Akpanudoedehe, said it will not fold their hands and allow Imo State to be turned into a field for blood shed.
The statement read, “The All Progressives Congress (APC) has closely monitored dangerous developments in Imo State which culminated in Saturday’s brazen and gruesome attack on the residence of the State Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma
“The party equally condemns the wanton attacks on police personnel and formations in Abia, Imo, Ebonyi and Anambra states as well as Rivers State.
“We stand with the Nigeria Police Force and families of the victims in this difficult time as we mourn the deaths of innocent and dedicated security personnel simply carrying out their duty of protecting life and property.
“In Imo State, the attack on the Governor’s residence is an attack on democracy and constituted authority serving the interest of the good people of Imo state.
“While we are still in shock over the ugly turn of events in the state, the party sympathises with Sen. Hope Uzodimma and all affected in the bestial attack. We have since learnt that there were fatalities with others injured and maimed during the attack.
“The party and indeed our security services will definitely not watch helplessly as some persons and interests attempt to turn Imo State into a killing field. We call on the good people of Imo state to go about their legal activities without fear and resist these enemies of the state.
“Our security services must fish out the perpetrators of these attacks and their sponsors to face the full weight of the law so as to restore dignity to the citizenry and confidence in the system, particularly democratic and security structures.”
Ebube Agu not alternative to police, army, says Uzodinma
The governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, has disclosed that the newly formed Ebube Agu security outfit for the South-East region is not an alternative to the police, army and other federal government established security outfits.
The governor in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Oguwike Nwachuku, said that Ebube Agu is but “a local outfit meant to gather information on criminal activities and give to the security operatives for proper processing and action.”
He identified youth unemployment and ethnic mistrust as the main root of criminality in Nigeria in particular and Africa in general.
The statement identified idleness as the reason fueling criminality and insecurity in Nigeria.
The statement identified the governor as saying “his Government is working assiduously to resuscitate the state moribund industries in Imo by entering into Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a seasoned private consulting firm, for the purpose of providing jobs for the Imo teeming youths to keep them away from crime.
“On the birth of security outfit for the South-East Geo-political zone codenamed EBUBEAGU, the Governor informed that it is not an alternative to the established security agencies such as Police, Army, Air Force, Navy, NSCDC, etc, but a local outfit meant to gather information on criminal activities and give to the security operatives for proper processing and action.
“They are to play complimentary roles on the efforts of the Federal Government and Security Agencies, knowing full well that a threat to security anywhere in the country is a threat to security everywhere in the country.
“Governor Uzodimma used the occasion to reiterate his stand that the security breaches in the South-East recently do not in anyway suggest that Ndigbo are tired of been in Nigeria. Rather, all we want is justice, equity and fairness in a big Nigeria family.”
