Youths under the aegis of Greater Okigwe Youths have called on the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Owerri, to declare Rt. Hon. Obinna Onwubuariri, winner of the January 25th, 2020, bye-election in Okigwe North Federal Constituency.
Hon. Onwubuariri is in court to challenge the declaration of Miriam Onuaha as the winner of the said election by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).
The lawmaker had won the House of Reps seat in the 2019 general elections, but his mandate was nullified by the court which ordered a fresh election in the federal constituency.
Deliberating on their desire to move the federal constituency and Okigwe zone at large forward, the leader of the top-notch youth group, Pharm Chigozie Elendu stated that from every indication, traducers and never-do-wells in Okigwe North and the zone were determined to stop Rt. Hon. Onwubuariri from returning to the green chamber for the second term.
He said they placed obstacles on his way, including allegations and intimidations to stop his victory, but on the 23rd day of February and 9th day of March, 2019, Hon Obinna was returned duly elected to represent ndi Okigwe North.
He also noted that Rt. Hon Obinna’s victory in that election against all expectations is a pointer to the fact that power belongs to the people, regardless of the amount of force and intimidation to coerce them.
“That Rt. Hon Obinna Kingsley Onwubuariri was declared winner in the last general election came as a pleasant surprise to many of his admirers, but to his enemies, it was a shock”, he stated.
“The right thing needs to be done; I can assure you that Hon Obinna won the rerun election but the APC used all forms of machinations and belligerent methods to rig many electoral wards and inflate their scores in those wards, as well as carting away electoral materials in Rt. Hon Obinna’s strongholds.”, Barr. Nnadi Odoemenam, the secretary of the youth group also hinted.
“It is, therefore, evil to address the winner of this blatant daylight robbery as an honorable. We will be making available the results are signed and collated in those booths and wards that the APC inflated in Onuimo, Okigwe, and Isiala Mbano”
As it has been established in time immemorial that injustice to one is an injustice to all, we must all stand for justice because of posterity’s sake. We must take a stand and demand that justice is done on the near military invasion that occurred on Jan 25th tagged rerun election.
