Okigwe Senate Re-run: Contestants Develop Cold-Feet Over Delay In Date

The tempo through which the contestants of Okigwe senatorial bye-election appears to be dwindling following the yet to be announced date for the bye-election.

Immediately after the burial of the late senator Ben Uwajumogu who died in December 2019, a meeting of stakeholders was called at the instance of Tony Chukwu where the plan to have a consensus candidate failed, aspirants from various political parties including the ruling APC indicated interest to run for the seat,

Some of the persons that indicated interest include, the sister to the late senator Uwajumogu, Chidinma Uwajumogu, the immediate former secretary to the state Government, Mark Uchendu, Chikwem Onuoha.

Apart from the above names, the 2019 Governorship candidate of APGA, senator Araraume appears to have an interest in the seat amongst others.

Speaking with the Lead, one of the contestants who would not want his name in print revealed that the delay in fixing the date for the bye-election by the INEC has reduced his zeal for the election.

According to the contestant, he never expected INEC not to have at least fixed the date of the election for people to know how to plan for the polls.
