A notable politician from Obowo LGA of Imo state, Chief Chika Chukwu has given reasons why development-conscious elements in the zone are clamoring for Dr. Charles Onyirimba to be the next senator of Okigwe zone.
Speaking recently at a forum in Odenkume/Umuosochie ward of Obowo LGA, Chief Chukwu said the people of the zone have opted to play politics of conscience with a view to saving the zone not only from its downward political movement but also from the mounting infrastructural rot in the zone.
He said the zone has suffered so much neglect and abandonment from past senatorial representatives in the zone, stressing that it has now become compelling for the zone to elect a senator with different background and orientation to ensure a diametrically opposed result from the past adventures.
Chief Chukwu contended that the past senators of the zone were more inclined on self-service than public service-oriented agenda, observing that they accounted to themselves instead of accounting to their constituency.
He opined that all right-thinking people of the zone have reached an informal consensus on the need to quicken the pace of development of the zone by electing someone who is development-sensitive, progress-minded and humanity-friendly as against electing people who serve only themselves.
He further argued that the people of the zone are yet to savor the benefits of representative democracy, saying the likes of Dr. Charles Onyirimba will place the zone in a positive footing to address and redress the myriads of challenges confronting the zone.
Chief Chukwu reiterated that the zone is fade up with self-service representations hence called on the voters in the zone to vote wisely in the forthcoming Imo North Senatorial bye-election.
