… APC, PDP Move TO Court Against Own Primaries
Ahead of the October 31st bye-election of Imo North, odds appear to be favoring Attorney Charles Onyirimba, the All progressives Grand Alliance Party candidate.
This however follows the political pedigree of the Aspirant as well as his educational qualifications which are intimidating when compared with candidates from other political parties.
Onyirimba, an Attorney of thirty-Two years standing in America was one of the persons that keenly contested for the Okigwe Zone senate in the 2019 elections.
After the said election Onyirimba who went to court to seek redress on the grounds that INEC erred in its declaration of late Senator Uwajumogu winner of the said election took it in good fate when the Court Appeal upheld the victory of Uwajumogu as the winner of the election.
An investigation carried out by this paper revealed that from being more academically sound than other Aspirants jostling for the seat, Ehime Mbano is one of the Local Governments in Okigwe Zone that had not occupied the senatorial seat of the zone.
Attempt by an Ehime Mbano person to occupy the seat was truncated before two years, that was the tenure of senator Athan Achonu. Lead Newspapers gathered that the said Athan Achonu whose tenure was truncated hails from Whine East while Onyirimba hails from Whine west.
Okigwe Zone has been accused of sending senators who only ended up being contractors and errand Boys with little or no presence of the Federal Government in the area when they held sway.
Angered by this inefficient and inadequate representation of the people in the Senate, various concerned groups from the area had called on Electorates to be wary in the next election and to ensure that errand Boys and contractors are not sent again to the Senate.
Some of the groups who openly declared war on errand Boys and contractors from going back to the Senate, include Okigwe Zone Elders Council, Okigwe Youths, Okigwe Elite group amongst others.
In a communique signed by the president of the group, Athan Anyanwu and made available to Lead, the Elders enjoined all Okigwe Electorate to shun money bag politicians, errand Boys being sponsored by one individual or another as well as contractors pointing out that when such a person is elected, the person’s constituency becomes automatically the sponsor or his nominator and by extension, the persons pocket and at the end of the whole exercise, Okigwe Zone would remain as it was.
The communique which in parts, charged the electorate to vote those who when they get there would not derail also disclosed that a man should be sent this time to the senate, not a boy, the communique reads.
Similarly, Okigwe Youths in a release made available to this paper called on all and sundry, to vote Onyirimba in the October 31st bye-election.
According to the group, Okigwe needs as a senator not only one who is academically sound but also one with listening ears with legislative acumen.
According to the group, Onyirimba having being a lawyer of 32 years standing should know the business of lawmaking more than other Aspirants who belong to other fields of endeavors.
However, in the course of our investigation, this paper gathered that Onyirimba is the only candidate from a popular party whose senatorial candidature is not subject to court interpretation.
While INEC had last Thursday published the names of candidates of the various political parties, this paper authoritatively gathered that the PDP candidate, Okewulonu has already been dragged to court by his opponent, Patrick Ndubueze on the alleged ground that the primary election which brought Okewulonu was marred with irregularities.
