Minister of Agriculture warns against consumption of wheat looted at Jos warehouse as it has been treated with agrochemicals

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture through the PA to the President on Media and Publicity has cautioned against the consumption of wheat seedlings carried away during the weekend by looters who invaded the warehouse of the National Agricultural Seed Council.

Bashir Ahmad, personal assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, said in a tweet posted on his Twitter handle on Monday afternoon, October 26, that the wheat seeds are not fit for consumption as they have been handled with agrochemicals.

His words…

”The Ministry of Agriculture appeals to the general public not to consume the looted wheat seed from the National Agricultural Seed Council’s warehouse in Jos. The wheat seed is not fit for human consumption as it has been treated with Agrochemicals, it’s for planting.

Senate confirms Bawa as EFCC Chairman

The Senate, after a two-hour session on Wednesday at plenary confirmed the appointment of Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Commission.

Bawa was nominated for the role by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Speaking during the screening, the new Chairman denied an allegation that he sold the seized property in EFCC custody at its Port Harcourt Zonal office.

He said the seized property in Port Harcourt were properly disposed off by the agency’s officials from its headquarters.

Fresh Attacks: Gunmen attack Niger communities

Still handling the tears caused by some gunmen who kidnapped some Kagara school students, another attack, has been launched at Some Communities in the Gurmana ward of Shiroro Local Government Area of the same Niger State.

On Wednesday evening, Sarkin Zama, Bakin Kogi (Lagbe), Siyiko, and other adjoining villages were invaded by gunmen, who stormed the villages in their large numbers.

Some unverified casualties were recorded as the operation lasted for hours.

Concerned Shiroro Youths, Sani Kokki, said some died while others who sustained various degrees of gunshot injuries were rushed to various health facilities for medical attention.

Kokki said scores of others were also abducted and taken to unknown destinations.

“Countless deadly attacks have become daily occurrences, thereby compelling the affected victims to live at the mercy of hydra-headed monsters. Defenceless, unarmed, and peaceful locals have been abandoned to their fate,” Kokki added.

Gunmen Break Into Niger School, Abducts Students, Staff

Some students and staff of Government Science Secondary School, Kagara, headquarters of Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, have been abducted by gunmen.

It was gathered that the attackers invaded the school around 2am on Wednesday.

A witness said a student, who tried to escape lost his loss through a gunshot while some others were injured but on our own, we cannot give verification to this claim.

Commenting on the abduction, Shehu Sani, a former Senator, said he has spoken with the principal of the school who confirmed the incident to be true.

The incident took place 48 hours after 21 passengers heading to Minna, capital of Niger State, were held hostage in broad daylight.

While they were released on Tuesday, news of fresh abductions in the state was received.

The high rate of insecurity in the nation has been a source of concern but all efforts to check the trend have not yielded the desired results.

Recently, President Muhammadu Buhari replaced the service chiefs he appointed in 2015 but insecurity hasn’t stopped under the new service chiefs.

Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi Yobe State, and Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, are some of the schools where gunmen have abducted students in the past.
