Imo Shadow Govt To Uzodinma, Urges FG To Address Demands Of Youths

Given the untold hardship as well as havocs which the Youths of Imo State have been involved in since Two days the Imo State Government has imposed curfew as a restraint to the youths protest which has been ongoing in various states of the nation, the president of the Imo Shadow Government, Dr.Anthony Iroegbu has called on the state Imo state Government to reconsider lifting the ongoing curfew and address the Imo Youths which according to him are reasonable and people with understanding.

Imo state Government had last Tuesday imposed what it termed duck to dusk curfew in the state following the on going national protest by Nigeria Youths which degenerated into burning and killing of the youths in Lagos state and few other states, Imo not inclusive.

In a release signed by Iroegbu’s media team and made available to weekend Lead, Dr Iroegbu who keenly contested for the Governorship seat of Imo in the 2019 elections blamed the security Agencies for allegedly shooting and killing the youths in Lagos who according to him were peaceful in their protest stating that the number of deaths occasioned by the on going protest would have been averted if the security Agencies particularly the soldiers had traded with caution in Lagos.

Appealing with Imo State Government to lift the on going curfew ,Dr Iroegbu popularly known as Omenuko enjoined Imo Government to mount security men on the Roads and allow people to go about their legitimate businesses adding that it will amount to disaster to cage people in their Houses without appropriate provisions particularly now the people are still suffering from the effects of the lock down occasioned by coronavirus epidemic.

Omenuko while appealing with the Youths in the state and Nigeria at large to toe the line of peace in the on going protest challenged the states and federal Governments as well as the states Houses o Assembly and the national Assembly to show enough commitment by enacting laws that will take care of the police brutality and reformation which he described as the bedrock of the whole problems in Nigeria

In Imo state, the youth turned turned philanthropist maintained that Uzodinma should look into the remote cause of the youths restiveness which according to him centers on unemployment, high cost of living amongst others stressing that curfew would not solve the issues rather would escalate the problems.

Iroegbu while commending Uzodinma who has promised to put all the Roads in Imo in order as soon as the rains stop as well as the launching of Health Care Services in the Communities urged him to look into job creation which according to him is a panacea to Youths restiveness in Imo pointing out that Government should make it a point of duty reviving the abandoned Industries built by late Sam Mbakwe’s administration.

Recall, that a majority of Imo people have condemned the imposition of curfew in Imo by the state Government as parts of the measure to stop the ongoing protest in the state.

Imo state PDP in a release signed by its state publicity Secretary, Ogubundu Nwadike and made available to Lead, urged the state Government to face what they termed governance and stop pursuing shadows.

In the same way, a chieftain of the APC in Orlu who would not want his name in print called the Governor to lift immediately the ongoing curfew and attend to the demands of the youths.

He charged the Governor not to toe the line of the Federal Government in handling the issue adding that Imo youths are wise.

‘Your Words Mean Nothing’ – Aisha Yesufu Slams Buhari

Aisha Yesufu, a human rights activist, says the words of President Muhammadu Buhari “mean nothing”.

Reacting to the abduction of the students of Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, Zamfara State, Yesufu said the primary responsibility of government is to protect lives.

In a strongly worded statement on Friday night, Buhari had warned bandits that he would not fall for threats and blackmail.

He had also said that his government had the capacity to deal with them but has not taken drastic action to prevent a situation where captives are used as shields.

Yesufu said Nigerians are used to a president “whose words are meaningless”.

“What I make of the statement is absolutely nothing. We are used to a president whose words mean nothing. He says one thing, and another thing happens.”

“The body language of President Muhammadu Buhari enables the terrorists. They know that we have an ineffective President and Commander-In-Chief, we have an incompetent one a clueless one, who does not even bother about what is happening in the nation.

“Yesterday we buried seven military officers, the best that we have, the nation was in mourning and the President was a few minutes away from the location of the burial and didn’t even turn up, what does that signify? It Is high time we began to make serious demands on the president.

“It is not in our place to give the way forward. His salaries are being paid for it; his needs are being taken care of. He was voted to give the way forward,” she said.

Yesufu was a strong member of the #Bring Back Our Girls Movement, which was on the frontline of the campaign for the release of students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, in 2014.
