Kingsoul Foundation Fiesta Ends In Style



It was a harvest of football talents in Umuowa Community, Orlu Local Government Area Council of Imo State on Sunday, 3 January 2021 as Kingsoul Foundation Football Competition’s grand finale  ended in praises and commendations with Umuojimma Village Team racing home with the Golden trophy after defeating Uhu Village  by 2- 0 to the admiration of the teeming spectators.

In his commendations message extolling the sponsor of the tournament, Chief Kingsley Onyegbule, the Chairman of Orlu Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH. Eze Magnus Duruigbo who is also the Royal Father of Umuowa Autonomous Community describes the football Competition as the first of its kind in the history of their community.

Eze Duruigbo stated that, the competition has brought more peace and unity in their community by bringing the youths together and further advised the players to make adequate use of the opportunities provided by the donor to ensure that they utilized such wonderful talents to better their lives, families and the society at large.

 It would be recalled that, the maiden edition of Kingsoul Football Competition trophy being donated by Chief Kingsley Onyegbule, an illustrious son of the Umuowa Community, notable industrialists and philanthropists through his foundations have decided to empower the youths of his community through football as charity begins at home. Further, he promised also to sponsor most of the talented players abroad in pursuance of their carriers as he doled out huge cash reward for the lst and 2rd positions teams and other consolation prizes. 

It is on record that the tournaments featured 12 football teams drawn from the villages in Umuowa Community that participated in the official flag of on the 20th December 2020. While the grand finale was on Sunday, 3 January 2021 at Umuowa Technical Secondary School playing ground with a mammoth spectator, a women dancing group that made the day a fanfare.

The former governor of Imo State and Senator Representing Orlu Zone, Distinguished Senator Rochas Okorocha was among the special guest accompanied by other notable individuals and revered traditional rulers were in attendance including the former Super Eagles Striker, Tijani Babangida and other ex-Super Eagles and National footballers were all present to access the performance of the players and if possible to make selections of the best players for further training and engagements in foreign football clubs.

In his words, ” I am a true Nigerian, having played football in Europe for more than 15 years and a former Nigeria Super Eagles hitman, I featured in two consecutive times for Nigeria in the World cup competitions and above all, I scored some goals in the World Cup and put happiness to the Nigerians more-so, I am also among the team that won the 1996 Atlanta Olympics Cup. So i am in a better position to advise you, players, now, we are not here only for fun we are also here for serious business.  What your brother, Chief Kingsley Onyehbule, did to you guys today is great and we are here to encourage you, people, to play according to the rules. What I saw here today is amazing the people in their numbers who came to watch the match is also encouraging and a show of solidarity, I must confess. I thanked the founder of Kingsoul Foundation for the noble gestures”. Tijani said.

 The highlights of the fiesta was cultural, gymnastics and acrobatics displays from the members of Imo State Sports Council.

Didier Drogba, African Football Legend Divorces Wife



The legend of Chelsea and Cote d’Ivoire, Didier Drogba, revealed that his ten-year marriage to his Malian wife, Lalla Diakate, is over… after appearing with a mystery woman in an intimate video in bed. In the late 1990s in Paris, Drogba, 42, met Diakate and they married in 2011.

Charles Ugwuh Kicks Off Imo PDP Youths Football Tournament



The State Chairman, Peoples Democratic Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Engr. Charles C. Ugwuh, OON Saturday, November 7, 2020 kicked off the maiden edition of the Imo PDP Youths Football Championship for youths across the local government areas of the State.

The event, which was held at the standard football field of All Saints Anglican Church, Egbu Owerri, was organized by Party and coordinated by the Office of the State Youth Leader and the State Organizing Committee (SOC) for the championship.

Indeed, Hon. Greg Nwadike GOC, the State Youth Leader, Imo PDP and Mr Kelechi Eke, the SOC Chairman packaged a very good and colorful opening ceremony for the championship.

There was a match passed by the teams from the local government areas. There were displays by Imo PDP Babes of the Office of the State Youth Leader. There was a novelty match between Team Imo PDP Babes, which had Arc Chinomso Odoemenam as Captain and Team Imo PDP Women Leaders, which had Hon. Chief Mrs. Maria Mbakwe as Captain.

There was the opening ceremony match between Team Orlu Zone and Team Owerri, which ended in a 2-2 draw. The two sides comprised real youths of the Party that exhibited real talents in the game of football. It was an entertaining match to signal the commencement of a maiden edition of the championship. Draws for the teams were drawn and teams from the various local government areas paired and matched to trade tackles among themselves in the coming days and weeks.

In addition to the august presence of the State Chairman, Engr. Charles C. Ugwuh, OON, the other members of the State Working Committee, including Sir Martin Ejiogu, State Deputy Chairman; Hon. Nze Ray Emeaña, State Secretary; Nze Sir Law Biaduo, State Organizing Secretary; Mrs. Maria Mbakwe, State Women Leader; Barr. Chibuisi Obido, Assistant State Vice Chairman (Imo West Senatorial District); Hon. Greg Nwadike GOC, State Youth Leader; and Ogubundu Nwadike, State Publicity Secretary.

Also conspicuously present at the opening ceremony were Imo PDP LGA Chairmen. Imo PDP Zonal and LGA Women Leaders.

Significantly, some notable leaders of the Party, very important personalities and dignitaries, including Chief Analyn Nwaneri, High Chief Dr. Summers Vitus Nwokie (Ikuku 1), Hon. Nze Okey Umez-Eronini, Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, who provided kits for the championship; Chief Onyekachi Amuchie, and many others.

On the whole, the turnout for the opening ceremony was quite impressive. It must have everything to do with the high value and general understanding of the roles of sports, and particularly football, in grooming the lives of youths, who are the indisputable leaders of tomorrow. Sports is one good way for developing talent, character, teamwork, and endurance required for the proper functioning of the youths in the wider society. And sports must be encouraged for youths to properly galvanize and harness their full potentials, and keep them out of anti-social conducts and activities.

Imo PDP has blazed the trail in providing a formal healthy football competition for youths across Imo State. It is believed that the immediate and remote benefits for organizing the championship will be achieved by the time it ends, and going forward.

Super Eagles of Nigeria takes on Desert Foxes of Algeria on a friendly match today



The Super Eagles will take vengeance against the Desert Foxes, who last year denied them a shot at Egypt’s fourth African crown.

With nine wins, three draws and eight defeats in 20 previous contests, the Super Eagles have a slight advantage over their North African counterparts. 

In the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals, the most recent tie between the nations was a 2-1 win for Algeria as they finally won the tournament.

The Super Eagles are officially ranked 29th in the world, their first entry in seven years into the global top 30 while t he North African giants are ranked 35th at present, a position they have held so far for all of 2020.

We could clearly deduce that the Super Eagles have an advantage over the North African giants. 

The match today is slated for 7:30 pm African Time. The match will be live on AIT and Supersport.
