Kingsoul Foundation Fiesta Ends In Style

It was a harvest of football talents in Umuowa Community, Orlu Local Government Area Council of Imo State on Sunday, 3 January 2021 as Kingsoul Foundation Football Competition’s grand finale  ended in praises and commendations with Umuojimma Village Team racing home with the Golden trophy after defeating Uhu Village  by 2- 0 to the admiration of the teeming spectators.

In his commendations message extolling the sponsor of the tournament, Chief Kingsley Onyegbule, the Chairman of Orlu Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH. Eze Magnus Duruigbo who is also the Royal Father of Umuowa Autonomous Community describes the football Competition as the first of its kind in the history of their community.

Eze Duruigbo stated that, the competition has brought more peace and unity in their community by bringing the youths together and further advised the players to make adequate use of the opportunities provided by the donor to ensure that they utilized such wonderful talents to better their lives, families and the society at large.

 It would be recalled that, the maiden edition of Kingsoul Football Competition trophy being donated by Chief Kingsley Onyegbule, an illustrious son of the Umuowa Community, notable industrialists and philanthropists through his foundations have decided to empower the youths of his community through football as charity begins at home. Further, he promised also to sponsor most of the talented players abroad in pursuance of their carriers as he doled out huge cash reward for the lst and 2rd positions teams and other consolation prizes. 

It is on record that the tournaments featured 12 football teams drawn from the villages in Umuowa Community that participated in the official flag of on the 20th December 2020. While the grand finale was on Sunday, 3 January 2021 at Umuowa Technical Secondary School playing ground with a mammoth spectator, a women dancing group that made the day a fanfare.

The former governor of Imo State and Senator Representing Orlu Zone, Distinguished Senator Rochas Okorocha was among the special guest accompanied by other notable individuals and revered traditional rulers were in attendance including the former Super Eagles Striker, Tijani Babangida and other ex-Super Eagles and National footballers were all present to access the performance of the players and if possible to make selections of the best players for further training and engagements in foreign football clubs.

In his words, ” I am a true Nigerian, having played football in Europe for more than 15 years and a former Nigeria Super Eagles hitman, I featured in two consecutive times for Nigeria in the World cup competitions and above all, I scored some goals in the World Cup and put happiness to the Nigerians more-so, I am also among the team that won the 1996 Atlanta Olympics Cup. So i am in a better position to advise you, players, now, we are not here only for fun we are also here for serious business.  What your brother, Chief Kingsley Onyehbule, did to you guys today is great and we are here to encourage you, people, to play according to the rules. What I saw here today is amazing the people in their numbers who came to watch the match is also encouraging and a show of solidarity, I must confess. I thanked the founder of Kingsoul Foundation for the noble gestures”. Tijani said.

 The highlights of the fiesta was cultural, gymnastics and acrobatics displays from the members of Imo State Sports Council.

Brazil to face Germany in Olympics football group stage

Reigning champions Brazil were on Wednesday drawn with 2016 runners-up Germany, the Ivory Coast and Saudi Arabia in the Tokyo Olympics men’s football group stages.

Hosts Japan, who have never won a medal in the men’s event, will play France, South Africa and Mexico in Group A.

Group C includes Egypt, Spain, Argentina and Australia while Group B has South Korea, New Zealand, Romania and Honduras.

The tournament starts on July 22, a day before the opening ceremony of the Games that were postponed last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the women’s draw record four-time champions the USA will feature against Sweden, Australia and New Zealand.

Home side Japan will play Great Britain, Canada and Chile.

Bayern, Dortmund ‘reject’ Super League

Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund said on Monday that they and German rivals Bayern Munich both rejected proposals to form a European Super League.

In a statement on Monday, Dortmund chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke said that the members of the European Club Association had met Sunday evening and expressed “a clear opinion to reject the foundation of a Super League”.

He added that the two German clubs on the ECA board, Bayern and Dortmund, had taken “100 percent” the same position “in all discussions”.

The announcement appears to confirm that neither of Germany’s two biggest clubs will join the breakaway league, whose announcement on Sunday threw European football into turmoil.

Overnight, 12 of Europe’s most powerful clubs announced the launch of the so-called European Super League to oversee a new midweek competition. 

Six of the breakaway clubs are from the English Premier League. Three are Spanish and three Italian. Three more are to be announced.

Mourinho Sacked By Tottenham

Jose Mourinho has been sacked as the head coach of Tottenham.

The club are yet to confirm the decision, but it is understood Mourinho has left less than a week ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday.

Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Tottenham manager in November 2019; Portuguese head coach led Spurs to sixth-place finish in the Premier League during first season in charge

Mourinho had been in charge at Spurs since November 2019, replacing Mauricio Pochettino, signing a deal until the end of the 2023 season.

In his first campaign, Mourinho took Tottenham from 14th in the Premier League to finish sixth – securing Europa League qualification – but were knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage by RB Leipzig.

Spurs are currently seventh in the table, five points off the Champions League places.
