…Charges Practitioners On Justice
One of the High Court Judges in Imo Justice Vin Onyeka has admonished Lawyers in Imo and in Nigeria in general to always seek justice as well as to do justice.
Justice Onyeka disclosed this over the weekend while commissioning the extension of Martins chambers built by a renowned Lawyer cum politician, Dr, Ikenna Ihezuo.
The new and modern legal firm which is situated along Porthacourt Road Owerri has all the requirements of modern Law Firm including a good number of Lawyers.
Speaking during the event, Justice Onyeka while praying to God to protect all the Lawyers in the firm as well as clients, admonished legal practitioners who he described as ministers in the temple of justice not to derail from the core mandate of God for lawyers which according to him, centers on ensuring justice irrespective of whose ox is gored.
Onyeka who reminded Lawyers that God on the last day would demand their stewardship on the last day further charged humanity in general to always seek redress in court when offended or any of the alternative dispute resolutions instead of taking laws into their hands.
He further admonished lawyers not to always advise clients to go to court particularly when it is obvious that such a client would lose in court rather should be advised on the best way to wriggle out of the problem.
In his submission, the principal partner of II Martins Associates, Dr. Barr Ikenna Ihezuo while thanking those present at the event, particularly the Justice for finding time to put up an appearance revealed that his intention for using Owerri Chambers as the Headquarters of the II Martins and Associates Chambers instead of the usual Abuja is to extend legal services to Imo State which he described as his home state
Ihezuo, a constitutional Lawyer and a human rights activist, however, posited that II martins and Associates is one of the legal firms known in Abuja for its protection against infringement of human rights adding that such is one of the reasons behind the transfer of the Headquarters to Owerri where it would be easier for his Imo citizens to access.
Responding to the question on the possibility of combining both legal practice and politics which are time-consuming, the legal Luminary pointed out that he is o
just one of the Lawyers in the firms adding that in Abuja, four sound Lawyers are in the chambers while Imo has at the moment five Lawyers hence such fears will not be seen or felt.
In their separate remarks, the Traditional Rulers of Umuna Autonomous Community HRM, Eze Dr. Douglas Okwara, and that of Eziachi Autonomous Community, HRH, Eze Ndoh, commended Ihezuo for finding it necessary to have an extension of his chambers in Imo his Home State.
The duo who prayed to God to protect him as well as all the workers in the new chambers assured him of their continuous support.
Those present at the function include Barristers Odumeh Darlighnton, Nnamdi Okafor amongst others.
