Inspector loses life to bandits at Orsu, as 3 cool off in cell over oil vandalism

The Imo Police Command has lost an Inspector in Orsu LGA even as  armed bandits in their numbers attacked the police station with explosives and petrol bombs, damaging  some part of the station.

In a press release signed by the , Police Public Relations Officer, CSP. Mike Abattam, he noted that “, on the 5th of July  2021 at about 21: 35 hours, armed bandits, in their numbers attacked Orsu Police station with explosives and petrol bombs  causing fire outbreak in the station which spread and affected some of the vehicles parked at the parking lot”.

 “The command’s tactical teams  on ground engaged the bandits in a gun duel. And due to the superior fire power of the police the bandits were subdued. Three of the bandits were neutralized and their guns, one pump action gun and two locally made double barrel pistols were recovered while others escaped into the bush with bullet wounds”.

He noted with dismay that a police inspector lost his life in the attack . adding that,  the command is using this medium to call on the good people of Imo State especially, the Orsu community to assist the police with credible information that will lead to the arrest of the escaped  bandits and to report to the nearest police station any person seen with or treating bullet wounds.

Hospitals are  also advised to ensure that they report any person who come to them for treatment of bullet wounds.

Meanwhile, the Imo State Police Command have arrested three suspects , Onuoha Chibuike, Musa Zayanu and Uzokwu Temple, on the 3rd of August 2021 for petroleum products vandalization.

In a press release made available to newsmen in owerri, through the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP. Michael Abattam, it stated thus; “on the 3rd of August, 2021 at about 0625hrs, the Imo State Police Command’s tactical teams acting on a tip off, intercepted a syndicate that specialises in vandalising pipelines in the State along Portharcourt Road Owerri, Imo State, using a white coloured Ford Bus with registration number Lagos, SMK 819 GY, fully loaded with vandalised petroleum products suspected to be adulterated diesel tied in cellophane bags. The driver of the vehicle, on sighting the police quickly jumped out of the bus and ran into the bush, abandoning the bus.

He was immediately chased and all efforts made to arrest the escaping suspect proved abortive. Thus,  the truck was recovered to the station”.

 “The tactical teams did not relent, after a diligent intelligence gathering, it was revealed that, the syndicates uses one Okwusyco Filling Station located along portharcourt road as their operational base and discharge point of  adulterated petroleum products and subsequently dispense to the unsuspecting  motorist. In the same vain, the command’s tactical teams busted another syndicate of vandals at Akachi road Owerri, Imo state where the following suspects were arrested , Onuoha chibuike ‘M’ age 27 years from Umuezegwu Ihite iboma LGA of Imo State,  Musa Zayanu ‘M’ age 27 years of Ganye LGA of Adamawa State and Uzokwu Temple ‘M’ 36 years of Umuofike Agwa in Oguta LGA of Imo State.

Recovered from them are three pumping machine, one shovel and large quantities of adulterated petroleum products concealed in cellophane bags “

 The release further noted that the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc, has constituted a high powered investigation team with the mandate to patrol vigorously, all pipeline locations and to fish out the syndicates involved in the vandalisation of pipelines in the state.
