Imo Police rescue kidnaped victim as Uzodinma issues N105m cheques to families of dead officers

The Imo state police command under the able leadership of CP. Abutu Yaro, on the 5th of July 2021, rescued Mr. Uzondu Kaka, a 46 years old man from  Umunuma Okohia in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo state , from the hands of unknown gunmen, who kidnapped him on the 1st of July 2021 .

 This information was contained in a press release from the office of the command’s police public relations officer, CSP. Mike Abattam.

According to the release, following information received that, on the 1st of July 2021 , one Uzondu kaka ,  age 46 years, a native of Umunuma Okohia Isiala Mbano Local Government Area  of Imo State, was kidnapped by unknown gunmen operating in a blue coloured Four Runner SUV vehicle without registration number, who trailed and kidnapped him at the entrance of his house in Umunuma Okohia Isiala Mbano LGA of Imo State and took him to an unknown destination.

He further disclosed that, on receipt of this information on 5th of July 2021, the command tactical teams after gathering technical intelligence was able to trace the location where the Kidnappers used as their Den in the forest at Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State. 

Pointing out that, the Hoodlums on sighting the tactical teams engaged them in a gun duel and in the process one of the suspect was neutralized , while others escaped with gunshot wounds and the victim was rescued unhurt.

He noted that, one of the operatives of the tactical teams who sustained gunshot injury was rushed to the hospital where he is presently, receiving treatment.

Some of the exhibits recovered at the scene are, one pump action gun, five (5) live cartridges, six (6) expended cartridges and cello tape used in blindfolding the victim .

 Even as the rescued victim informed the tactical teams that he was robbed of the sum of the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand naira, his ATM card and other valuables. 

The corpse of the neutralized suspect was later deposited at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC)Owerri , Imo State. While efforts are on top gear to arrest the fleeing suspects with gunshot injuries.

The command is therefore using this medium to call on the general public/ hospitals to report any person or persons seen with gunshot injuries to the nearest police station.

Meanwhile, Information contained in a press release from the Imo state police command through the office of the command’s police public relations officer, CSP. Mike Abattam, has it that on the 2nd of July 2021, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba Usman, visited Imo State, on a one day working visit to launch the Operational Base of Operation Search and Flush and the new vehicles given to the command by the state government which includes two Armored Personnel Carriers vehicles.

The IGP on arrival with his entourage at the Imo International Airport, were received by  the executive  Governor of Imo State, Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodinma, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 9 Umuahia, AIG Ene Okon , the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Police Command, CP Abutu Yaro, and  heads of other security agencies .

According to the release, the IGP during the event, expressed immeasurable joy and appreciated  Governor Uzodinma for his initiative which gave birth to the commissioning of the Operational Base of Operation Search and Flush.

The release added that, a total number of Sixty-Six (66) vehicles and Four (4) Armored Personnel Carriers (APC) were displayed.

He further disclosed that, the operatives of the joint operation comprises of the Police as the lead agency and other security agencies, with its operational headquarters situated along Aba/Owerri Road, Imo State.

CSP. Abattam further stated that the State Governor applauded the officers and men of the Command for their gallantry,  Even as he promised to continue to support the command in all the needed areas but was saddened over the death of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty within the past six months.

He however presented cheques of one hundred and five million naira (N105,000,000.00) to the next of kin and families of  Twenty One (21) slain Police Officers .

 The Inspector-General of Police after the presentation equally announced that the children of the slain officers will be given considerations in Police recruitment and admission into any Police Institutions of higher learning. He also praised the officers and men of the command for their dedication to duty and also promised to support the command.
