Imo Police Arrest Attackers Of Gov. Convoy

The Imo state police command arrested fifteen persons with some arms,  who claimed they are a staff of Imo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission(ISOPADEC), on Monday  17th of August 2020, around Concorde area of New Owerri Imo state, for unlawful assembly, unlawful possession of gun, dangerous weapons and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

This piece of information was contained in a press release signed by the state commissioner of police,  Cp Isaac Akinmoyede, through the office of the command’s  Police Public Relations Officer, Sp Ikeokwu Godson Orlando.

According to Cp Akinmoyede, on the 17th of August 2020, at about 1130hrs, a group of persons who claim to be a staff of ISOPADEC ambushed the convoy of the Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma.

He further disclosed that the Governor was on his way to Obinze for an official assignment when the group who also claimed to be owed three (3) months salary, attacked the vehicles in the convoy with a locally made pistol and machetes around Concord area of New Owerri. In the process, windscreens of some of the vehicles in the convoy were smashed and the vehicles damaged.

Pointing out that, the Patrol teams in Owerri Metropolis were mobilized to the scene and fifteen (15) persons were arrested with one locally made pistol, two machetes, one masquerade facemask, a chain, and a padlock. Adding that, the Governor’s security aides exercised a lot of restraint to avert bloodshed in the situation.

According to the Cp, the arrested suspects have been handed over to state CID for discreet investigation.

He, therefore, advised that members of the public should not take laws into their hands. Even as he enjoined them to report any genuine grievances to the Police, rather than resort to self-help, as the Police will not tolerate any form of lawlessness within the state.
