…Govt Is Aware Of Nwaogwugwu’s Arrest – Emelumba
Fear of who becomes the next victim of what Imo State Government termed has seditious and inciting news against the State Government appears to have gripped the members of the PDP in Imo particularly the party’s media team.
This follows the arrest and continued detention of the Director of the party’s new media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu who is at the moment cooling off at the DSS Office.
This is even as the state government has claimed awareness of the arrest and subsequent detention of the said victim.
However, since the arrest and detention, of Nwaogwugwu by the DSS over the weekend, there appears calmness and serenity in both the print and social media of the party who would not spend a minute without dishing out one information or the other against the state government.
Speaking with Lead, one of the PDP media handlers in the state who would not want his name in print unveiled that the arrest and subsequent detention of Nwogwuwu by the Department of State Security Service (DSS) has inculcated fear in them, pointing out that until the instant issue is resolved, there may not be such publications.
In a press release signed by Information Commissioner, Declan Emelumba, and made available to Lead, the Government accused Nwaogwugwu of publishing seditious publications against the government of Uzodinma.
According to Emelumba, the said Nwaogwugwu had at three consecutive times published seditious statements capable of inciting people against the state government meanwhile the national leadership of the PDP has called on the DSS to release with immediate effect, the said Nwaogwugwu unconditionally in a press release signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan and made available to Lead, Imo state government has said that it was aware of the arrest and detention of one Ambrose Nwaogwugwu by the Department of State Security services, on the orders of the court.
The Commissioner said that Nwaogwugwu and company fabricated and caused to be published in the social media false, Seditious materials claiming, among other things, that the government had created three Emirates in the state and installed three Emirs, that the government planned to rename Imo state University after the late Chief of staff to the President, Abba kyari, and lately that the government had approved 15 Almajiri Schools for the state.
The commissioner said that with such brazen audacity to cause public disaffection and unrelenting determination to incite the public against the government, it was not surprising that Nwaogwugwu was arrested by the DSS, obviously after investigating allegations against him
The statement added that the clarification on his arrest became necessary following different unauthorized statements claiming that the government was not aware of the arrest and detention of the said Ambrose Nwaogwugwu.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the government will stand by the law to deal with those who mistake opposition to mean reckless fabrication and publication of false and Seditious materials against the government. Those indicted of such criminality whether within or without the opposition must be made to face the full wrath of the law. We insist that Democracy must be governed by law, both for those in government and those outside government” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the National Leadership of PDP has called on the State government to release the victim.
In a release signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Kola Onogbondiyan insisted he releases unconditionally.
