The state government has disclosed plans to revitalize the moribund Avutu Poultry farm, reassuring Imolites that the farm will soon bounce back to life.
The Deputy Governor Prof Placid Njoku disclosed this when he in company of some government officials, took an inspection tour of the facility located at Umuosi Avutu in Obowo Local Government Area.
Prof. Njoku who described agriculture as the economic base of most countries of the world regretted that the vision of the Dee Sam Mbakwe regime in establishing the Avutu Poultry farm to produce food, livestock grazing, generate revenue and employment for the state was run down by successive governments.
He made it clear that the Avutu Poultry farm occupies a central point in the agricultural agenda of the state government, stressing that a tour around the farm showed that it is in a very sorry state.
The Interim Management Committee Chairman of Obowo Local Government, Hon. Celestine Ihejirika commended the present administration led by the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, for making the rehabilitation of the Avutu Poultry farm as one of their cardinal projects, noting that varieties of livestock would be reintroduced into the farm to bring it back to its the original form.
A Senior Citizen of the area, Mr. Innocent Ndubueze whom the deputy governor met at the site, urged the state government to hurriedly come to their aide as the place would be of great importance to the community and state at large.
He stated that he took it upon himself as an ex-police officer to monitor the place to avoid Invaders from intruding into the environment.
The highlight of the day was the hosting of the deputy governor by the traditional ruler of the area, HRH Eze Abel Chukwuocha, Eze Olengalaba 11.
