At last, Imo House of Assembly members has opened up on the controversial domestication of the Imo state Administration of Criminal Justice Law No 2 of 2020 particularly sections 484 and 485.
This is even as the Chairman House Committee on public petitions Arthur Egwim, member representing Njaba state constituency, Uju Onwudiwe, Chigozie Nwaneri, member representing Oru West exonerated, the Imo State Governor, senator Hope Uzodinma of having no hands on the allegations of doctoring the said law.
Others that condemned the allegations of involvement of the Executive, doctoring the controversial law include, Kanayo Onyemachi, a member representing Owerri west state Constituency, Johnson Duru, a member representing Ideato South State Constituency amongst others.
Addressing the press in his office, Arthur Egwim decried what he termed situation where a law that passed through all the legislative processes with the mover of the Bill present during the sitting s should now become an object of controversy to the extent that the Governor who had not even assumed office as a Governor as at the first time ,the said Bill passed through first, second and third readings should now be accused of smuggling in certain sections that empowered him to detain offenders at his pleasure.
Recently, both the print and electronic media were awash with news that the executive arm of the Government had doctored, changed, and snuggled in certain sections to the Bill initiated by the House of Assembly Member representing Oguta state Constituency, Frank Ugboma.
This allegation which caused commotion in Imo and beyond attracted series of controversies in Imo and beyond.
Some of the persons who spoke in support of the law include a professor of law Professor Nmamdi Obiareri who gave a nod to the said law though pointed out that few things be amended.
Arthur Egwim who accused Ogboma, the mover of the Bill of accusing the executive of doctoring the original bill revealed that same Ogboma, who initiated the bill was happy, celebrating amongst his colleagues in the House, over the success of his bill after being signed into law wondering how same person amongst other PDP members would go behind to accuse executive of doctoring the said Bill.
Commissioner for information and Strategy in Imo, Declan Emelumba had in a release to Lead Newspapers accused PDP members as well as the House members of only looking for ways to water down every good policy of the state Government.
According to Emelumba, the bill in contention was never an executive bill which was midwived by the PDP members during the Ihedioha’s administration wondering how it was doctored.
Arthur Egwim who while condemning what he termed unnecessary politics which the PDP members in the House are doing with the said law made it clear that he is an APC member of Rochas Okorocha’s extraction but insists that Uzodinma is innocent of the allegations emanating from the said law.
In his speech, the member representing Owerri west in the State Assembly, Kanayo Onyemaechi (Egbe Eji eje ogu) accused PDP members in the House of Assembly of acting the script of the their pay masters disclosed that all the PDP members in the 9th Assembly made comments supporting the bill before it was signed into a law.
