Given the moves by the Eze Elects of the 31 Autonomous Communities created on the eve of 29th May 2019 by the outgone administration of former Governor Rochas Okorocha, plans to be issued with the staff of office by the Eze Elect of the 35 Autonomous Communities which Okorocha’s Government recognized on the eve of May 29, 2019, may not come through following condemnation of such move by some notable Traditional Rulers in IMO as well as Ohanaeze Youths.
Okorocha’s led administration had on May 29th issued certificate of recognition to the said Ezes through the then Secretary to the State Government, mark Uchendu.
The issuance of the said letters which took place in one of the Hotels in new Owerri was canceled by Ihedioha led administration through the 9th IMO Assembly on the grounds that the recognition did not follow due process.
Upon assumption of Uzodinma as the Governor of IMO State on January 2020, he sustained the suspension and nonrecognition of the said Ezes Elects and their communities
While the suspension is still subsisting, some of the affected Traditional Rulers upon hearing the creation of New Autonomous Community from Nkwerre the Uzodinma’s administration began moves, appealing with the relevant agencies to bring up the suspended Communities for recognition.
Speaking with the Lead, one of the prominent Traditional Rulers in Imo, HRM, Eze Dr. Douglas Okwara noted that the rate in which Autonomous Communities were created in Imo by the previous administrations that if Uzodinma’s Administration follows suit, that all the Families in Imo would become autonomous with a Traditional Ruler.
Okwara Chukwu, who is the forth Traditional Ruler in Okwarachukwu dynasty in Umuna Autonomous Community called on the Governor who he described as a friend not to in the interest of harmony consult the Traditional Rulers for their opinion anytime he thinks that Imo is due for more Communities.
Okwarachukwu who is presently the chairman, south East Association of Christian Traditional Rulers as well as Chairman Isu Council of Traditional Rulers, Orlu Local Government further advised the Governor to borrow a leaf from Anambra State and other south Eastern States with few Autonomous Communities and serenity in such States.
In his submission, the Traditional Ruler of Okporo Autonomous Community, HRH, EZE Barr VNC Ugbala, advised the Government not to think of creating new Autonomous Communities in Imo adding that what Government should do at the moment is to look for a way to engage the youths in the villages by through the Traditional Rulers establish Industries in the communities.
He however advised him to borrow a leaf from the Yoruba Land where non of the Autonomous Communities has less than 600 taxable Adults.
In same vein, the President of Ohanaeze Youths, Igboaya o Igboayaka revealed that what Imo needs at the moment is the creation of job opportunities for the youths of Imo State who according to him are employable but no employment.
Igboayaka who gave an instance with Onicha Uboma Autonomous Community in Ihitte Uboma Local Government with six villages with less than 200 Taxable Adults yet some of the persons in the said village is asking for Autonomy from the mother Community.
Igboayaka who appealed with Uzodinma not allow self to be deceived and misled from giving Imo the eluded dividends of democracy which is the prayer of all Imo people at the moment, into moving into policies that would make his administration unpopular.
