As the clock ticks by and the 2023 electioneering period draw closer, a group known as Rochas Presidential Mandate Group(RPMG) has called on the former governor of Imo State cum Senator representing Imo West in the National Assembly, Sen. Owelle Rochas Okorocha to run for Nigeria President come 2023. The group gave the call on Saturday 19th December 2020, in Owerri while officially unveiling their support/movement for the Imo state serving senator.
Addressing News Men shortly after the event, the national coordinator RPMG Mr Uba John Onyewuchi posited that the mandate given to Rochas by the group to run for President was not steered up by political sentiments nor greed but on the basis that Owelle Rochas Okorocha from his antecedents possesses the political clout to pilot the affairs of the country. Ubá added that when Rochas ruled as the governor of Imo, the dividends of democracy was very much evident in the state as various sectors was carefully and prudently managed to the growth and development of the State.
Speaking further he stated “ Judging from his political scorecard over the years, there is no doubt Owelle fits in as the best candidate from the Igbo extraction to run for President come 2023. His wealth of experience in politics speaks volume of his capacity and I Can say categorically, speaking the minds of majority that Owelle is the man to fill the lacuna missing in Nigeria political system and as well transform the Nation from her sorry state of despondency to a much anticipated better state the masses long for”.
That’s why we have assembled under the umbrella of RPMG to urge his excellency Senator Rochas Anayo Okorocha to run for President of the country as we pray and know that success will surely prevail on his presidential aspirations if obliged” he stated. The group however donated a whooping sum of 20 million Naira and other gifts from the women wing to support his presidential aspirations. They also called on political parties and the Federal government to put an end to the long-existing Igbo marginalization as they maintained that a south Easterner should be given a meritorious ground to run for President come 2023.
The group which has its structures across the 27 local government of Imo state as well other states in southeast and South-South however called on every citizen of the country to subscribe to the vision of change as the quest to restore sanity to the decayed political system in Nigeria shouldn’t be far fetched, stressing that Owelle Rochas Okorocha should be the visionary mandate.
Presidency Condemn Attacks On Police Stations
President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the unnecessary and unwarranted attacks on Police officers and their facilities in various parts of the country.
According to a statement by the presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, the president urged all Leaders in various communities to encourage their youths to stay away from violence and also avoid being used as tools of violence in the country.
Adding to the statement, the presidency seized the medium to sympathize with all who lost their family members due to what he described as the ‘madness’ going on in parts of the country.
“If we attack institutions guarding us,” the president wondered, “who will protect us in future emergencies?”
According to reports, no fewer than 67 security agents, comprising the police, Navy and prison wardens have been killed by gunmen in the South East and South South since December last year.
Insecurity: Ortom, El-Rufai trade words, accuse each other of failure
The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, on Saturday, took a swipe at his Kaduna counterpart, Nasir El-Rufai, saying he had no moral justification to challenge another governor.
Ortom was reacting to El-Rufai’s accusation that his Benue counterpart was using the insecurity in his state to attack the Federal Government to cover up his failure.
The Kaduna governor, during a webinar on Friday, said, “I know him (Ortom) and he is not somebody I take very seriously, frankly. He has other issues of governance that he is using the Federal Government as a punching bag to divert attention from his failures.
“Go and find out how many months’ salaries are being owed teachers and public servants in Benue State then you can understand a lot of what Ortom is doing.”
However, the Benue governor, responding in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, said, “We want to believe that El-Rufai was wrongly quoted. A man who has failed in several aspects as governor of Kaduna has no moral justification to accuse another governor. “
According to him, El-Rufai divided the people of Kaduna against one another by allegedly not hiding his hatred for indigenes of the state on account of religion and ethnicity.
The statement read, “A governor who chose a Muslim deputy in a state where Christians have a huge population is certainly not one to preach unity and peaceful coexistence. El-Rufai’s attack on Governor Ortom is merely to make him look good before the Presidency.
“He has apparently fallen out of favour at the Villa and wants to use Governor Ortom as a launch pad back to reckoning. This is a man who has insulted almost every prominent Nigerian, including the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, a man who is his former boss and one who brought him to limelight.”
Ortom said Nigerians had yet to forget the unprintable things El-Rufai said during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, saying, “He insulted the then President and publicly supported terrorists attacking parts of the country.
“His statements on the abduction of Chibok girls and several other acts of terrorism are still fresh in our minds. El-Rufai is on the record to have said repeatedly that Fulani people must retaliate any wrong done to them, no matter how long it takes.
“Is Governor Ortom responsible for El-Rufai’s inability to ensure peace in Kaduna State where bandits have taken over some communities while kidnappings and killings occur on a daily basis? El-Rufai admitted paying Fulani herdsmen whom he invited from other West African countries in the name of stopping attacks in Southern Kaduna.”
According to the Benue governor, since the “confessional statement,” attacks on the people of Southern Kaduna have escalate and kidnapping has become a “common crime” in Kaduna under the governor.
Ortom said Benue people did not take El-Rufai seriously, adding, “A man who has no regard for humanity does not deserve our attention. Nasir El-Rufai is a sycophant, ethnic champion and religious bigot who hates anyone who does not share the same faith with him. He is among the very few persons who have misled President Muhammadu Buhari.”
Ortom described his Kaduna counterpart as “one of the real enemies of the country who do not hide their divisive tendencies by elevating nepotism and ethnicity above the good values that have held Nigeria together over the decades.”
Nigeria Has Become A Giant Killing Field – PDP
The National Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decried the current security situation in the country, saying Nigeria has become a giant killing field.
In a communique read by the national chairman of the party after a meeting of the caucus at the Akwa Ibom Governors’ Lodge in Abuja, the party said Nigeria was fast descending into anarchy, with the security of lives and property “practically non-existent.”
“Terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, rape, arson, mindless murder of citizens and even security agents are ravaging the land. Criminals have taken complete control of most aspects of our lives unchecked. The government seems powerless to act. Nigeria has become one giant killing field.
“The meeting also noted the unrestricted expansion of Boko Haram into newer and inner territories close to the seat of government in Abuja and expressed alarm at the capitulation of the security agencies and President Muhamadu Buhari’s APC government. In the view of the meeting, President Buhari has failed the people at a time of grave national crises,’’ part of the communiqué reads.
