The last has not been heard on why some state exco members of people’s Democratic party PDP in Imo state resigned their positions and decamped to APC/ shared prosperity government of Dist. Senator Hope Uzodinma.
Addressing journalists recently in Owerri, after decamping to APC, the ruling party, the former Assistant/ acting publicity state publicity secretary of PDP in Imo state Chief Ihebinike revealed that his former party, the PDP has lost salt and soul of the party as a democratic party as was known before. He said the party appears to be a cult where few people know what is going on in the party.
Chief Ihebinike said that prior to the 2018 gubernatorial primary, the party in the eyes of the majority of Imo key political players was like a campaign organization of one governorship aspirant. This development made it extremely very difficult for political stakeholders to join the party and also invest in it. This ugly situation continued until the former state chairman of the party Barr. Charles Ezekwem called a world press conference with approval of the state executive committee of the party to announce to the world that the PDP was not a one-man party as it was in the public domain. This world press conference was the springboard for political leaders and aspirants to embrace the party.
Chief Harry Ihebinike also stressed that the joining of senator Samdaddy Anyanwu into the governorship race energized the party and mobilized it to be a household party after being out of government for many years. This development, Chief Harry Ihebinike said did not go down well to some power-drunk at the hierarchy of party at the state.
Hon Harry Ihebinike who has been an active politician for almost three-decade now also said that the ill-feeling of the 2018 governorship primary in PDP is still destroying his former Party. Those they branded senator Samdaddy suffered untold injustice, neglect, humiliation and are not been carry along by their former party even up till now. He also said he resigned his membership and position in the party because he wants to join his brother, the governor of Imo state Dist. Senator Hope Uzodinma in his shared prosperity government. “I want to lend my support to my brother who is the governor in order to help to add value to the administration.” Considering his giant strike in the last 100 days, I am convinced that he is doing very well despite the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the world. Chief Ihebinike revealed that he resigned and joined Apc primarily to support his brother to bring shared prosperity to Imo citizens.
” I had no future in my former party PDP. I have been cajoled, humiliated, treated like a stranger with disrespect, and without been carried along despite the fact that I single-handedly formed the structures from the wards to the local government Area in 2016 congress when everybody in Oru East deserted the party. I was marginalized because they alleged that I supported a different leading governorship aspirant in the 2018 gubernatorial primary” Ihebinike stated.
Hon Ihebinike who is an experienced politician predicted that no reasonable and wise politician will join the PDP in the state and invest in a party like PDP when they already knew their governorship candidate, senatorial, House of Reps and Assembly now for the election that will hold in 2023 to 2024. He stressed that some of his former colleagues in the state Exco are desirous to join us in Apc and in the shared prosperity government of governor Hope Uzodinma as soon as possible.
