Ebonyi PDP seeks police protection, alleges threat to members as Umahi Defects to APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ebonyi State chapter, has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police and heads of other security forces to step up their security efforts, in and around the state.

Chief Fred Udeogu, Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the PDP in the state, said that the call became necessary in the light of growing threat to its members by persons suspected to have acted on the orders of the state government.

Chief Fred said this at a press briefing held at the National Secretariat of the PDP, in Abuja, on Friday.

The party chairman said, “We wish to use this opportunity to call on the Inspector-General of Police, the Director of State Security Services to protect members and legitimate officers of the PDP in Ebonyi State, and hold Governor Dave Umahi accountable for any breakdown of law and order in Ebonyi State.

“The goal of the Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Dave Umahi, is to control the PDP and the APC in Ebonyi State, by sheer brute force. But the good people of Ebonyi State who are predominantly active members of the PDP, are not prepared to be victims of this brute force and dictatorship, and will continue to fight for their political freedom.”

However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, on Friday, said that members of the PDP in the state were merely making allegations that hold no water and should not be paid attention to.

Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, who is the state APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, stated during an interview on Friday, that both Umahi and the state government has nothing to do with the Peoples Democratic Party again.

Okoro-Emegha said, “This is a laughable allegation because Governor David Umahi is not in the PDP anymore and has no business whatsoever with the accusing party or its members. Whoever, maintains membership with the Peoples Democratic Party, does that on their own and not for Umahi, because he has since moved on to the APC.

Of course, party disagreements should not be equated with personal relationships. If there is anything going on between the governor and anybody in the PDP,  he also stated that, if there is a misunderstanding between anyone in the PDP and the governor, that must be on personal grounds, and that has nothing to do with the party.

And these are baseless and laughable allegations by anybody who is saying that Umahi wants to dominate both the APC and the PDP in EBonyi State,

He alleged that the deluge of unending litigation against the PDP in Ebonyi was a state sponsored attempt to derail the party.

The chairman said, “A summary of the history of this suit, No. HAB/161/2020 is that three Ebonyi State High Court judges have recused themselves from handling the case.”
