Last Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Abuja, Ikeduru born high flying technocrat, brilliant scholar and chartered accountant, Dr Joe Emeka Chibundu celebrated his birthday. Though the celebration which took place at the high brow area of Abuja, was planned to be elaborate, the recent crisis bedevilling the country as a fallout of the peaceful protest that turned sour, embarked upon by the youths of this country rather took the shine off the celebration.
As a lover of youths and pillar of youth empowerment, development and education, Dr Joe Chibundu in solidarity with the plight of Nigeria Youths and in recognition of the roles they play in the society especially in a democracy such as ours, the doyen of lkeduru intelligentsia, took time to identify with the aspirations and wishes of the youths but with a note of warning against violence, thuggery and jungle justice.
Having admonished lkeduru youths who came to celebrate and grace the occasion of his birthday, particularly against taking the law into their hands in demanding for the #endsars protest, he went ahead to harp on the need for them to take their education very seriously.
In x- raying the man Dr Joe Chibundu, his brilliant academic, social and political exploits that singled him out today as a man of vision and one with Midas touch that should remain a source of inspiration and role model to the progressive and forward-looking youths anywhere in the society.
For a young man who knows essentially what he wants, Dr Joe Chibundu who is today, a fellow of both the lnstitute of chartered Accountants of Nigerian (ICAN) and that of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigerian (CITN) cut his brilliant academic teeth with distinctions as the best graduating student in the faculty of Business Administration of Abia State University, Uturu, in 1988. He went ahead to emerge as the recipient of the MKO ABIOLA prize for the Best graduating postgraduate student of the University of Benin in 1992. He equally took home the Yesufu Giwa Osagie Memorial prize for the best graduating MBA student of the University of Benin in 1992.
As if that was not enough laurels in his kitty of first among equals, he went on to aim at the highest when he capped his academic pursuit with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Human Resources Management.
His academic career is a big lesson and inspiration to most Nigeria Youths because at the age of 22 years, Dr Joe Chibundu had already qualified as a chartered accountant, a feat many of our youths today can hardly attain at 30. Notwithstanding this brilliant outing, Dr Chibundu was elevated to the prestigious followership cadre of the institute, long before his 32nd birthday.
With these rare skills and competencies, he has been an epitome and advocate for the enthronement of accountability, transparency and prudence in corporate organisations.
Throughout his professional career that has spanned nearly three decades in the areas of audit, investigation, tax and management consulting, banking and corporate finance, Dr. Joe Chibundu strongly believes in strict adherence to operating procedures, transparency and accountability. These attributes and conducts accounted for his unrivalled and unparalleled record of excellent service as Finance Adviser at UNITOP Group (a major marine logistics expatriate company with over 10 ocean-going vessels, barges, and houseboats). Upon resumption, he redesigned and strengthened the company’s internal control system for all areas of transaction ranging from control over cash disbursement to fixed assets. He equally ensured strict adherence to average collection and payment periods which helped cash flow planning and working capital management.
His philosophy of accountability and transparency earned him elevation as Principal Partner of a chartered accounting and Management consulting firm, where he supervises the design and installation of accounting and internal control systems, budgetary control systems and change management systems for several organisations in varying sectors of the economy.
It is not for nothing that Dr Joe Chibundu was privileged to have served the government of Abia State as a consultant to the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission Abuja for the purpose of the 13% derivation on 22 oil Wells, recovered from Rivers state between 2010 and 2012.
As an intellectual octopus and Financial guru, taciturn in nature, Dr Chibundu was part of the country’s delegation to Beijing China in 2013 on rural development strategy for Federal Republic of NIgeria. His vast knowledge in accounting, human resources management and strategic planning may have placed him at a vantage position and probably the reason Dr Joe Chibundu doubles as a Special Adviser to both Distinguished Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, his close confidant and childhood friend and Rt. Hon Henry Nwawuba Member Representating Mbaitoli /lkeduru Federal Constituency and deputy chairman, House Committee on Niger Delta Ministry.
He has so far replicated all those special and unique attributes that singled him out as a first-class scholar, resilient, passionate public servant and technocrat of the highest grade. He is the brain and engine house behind the New Generation lkeduru East which is committed to the development of the area. In addition, he is the Secretary-General of Ike Ikeduru, a pan Ikeduru development association focused on restoring the dignity of the people of Ikeduru.
He has received several awards locally and internationally including Rotary International distinguished person’s award and global leadership award by Chicago Land Chamber of Commerce in Chicago, Illinois USA.
No wonder the 2020 birthday anniversary of this humble, charismatic, amiable and accounting wizard, born to the family of late Pa Sylvester and Nneoma Victoria Chibundu of Owu Amakohia in Ikeduru LGA of Imo State, was celebrated in grand style, though low keyed.
For a man with a very rare kind of benevolent heart /milk of human kindness, may God bless your new age.
