CRIME: MOPOL Inspector rapes 13-year-old student in Benue

A Mobile Police Inspector identified simply as John has been arrested and detained at Ugba Police Station over the rape of a 13-year-old female student in Ayilamo, Tombo ward of Logo Local Government Area in Benue State.

The community leader in Ayilamo, Hon Wuam Hilega said the incident occurred at about 5pm on Thursday November 12. He told The Nation that five female students of Tombo Community Secondly School, Ayilamo were sent on errand by their games-master to fetch water from a nearby well, close to the Mobile Police quarters.

However a mobile police inspector, who was with a broom sweeping called one of the girls. Hilega said; 

“The girl, Philomena Torhile, was afraid but the police inspector threatened to deal with her if she didn’t respond, so the other girls advised her to go.

“But when Philomena Torhile approached the police inspector, he immediately dragged her into the room, pulled her cloths and raped her.”

The other girls ran back to the school and reported to the principal of Tombo Community Secondary School and other staff, who mobilised to the house of the policeman and broke the door open.

The policeman who was caught naked was almost lynched after the girl was seen naked and bleeding. The tension was doused by principal of Tombo Community Secondly School, Mr.  Aondona Akumbul before a team of Operation Whirl Stroke who were called in arrived and whisked away the inspector to Anyiin Police Station. 

It was however gathered that the youths torched the police post in Ayilamo and smashed doors and window. The policeman was subsequently taken to Logo Divisional Police Station in Ugba on Friday November 13.

The Divisional Police office in Ugba confirmed the incident and said the suspect will be transferred to Benue State Police Command in Makurdi for thorough investigation.

Sex Worker caught, plan to sell her baby for 40k

A commercial sex worker, Victoria Chukwube has been apprehended in Ebonyi state while trying to sell her baby.

According to the State Police in Ebonyi, the woman was apprehended for allegedly trying to discard her baby for N40,000 only.

Odah said, “So her name is Chukwube Victoria, she told us she is a commercial sex hawker and that she has this baby which she is carrying.

The 32-year-old woman said she needed to sell the four-month-old baby boy in order to raise money to start a business of selling drinks.

Ebonyi State Police spokesperson, Loveth Odah said Chukwube was arrested following a tip-off.

“She said if she leaves here she would continue to look out for prospective buyers.

“But we tried to talk to her and to make her see the value of being a mother, but she refused.

“She even told us that if we allow her to go home with the baby she will throw the baby away and that she can’t tell who got her pregnant.”

While Interrogating the lady, she refused to disclose her state of origin or local government but maintained that she does not have the financial capacity to take on the responsibility of caring for the child.
 
Chukwube said, “I am from Nigeria, 32 years old, a commercial sex hawker and my baby is just four months old. “I want to sell the baby at the rate of N40,000 to start up a business. I have a fridge and I reside at Ogbe Hausa in Abakaliki.”

Borno attacks: Zulum visits victims, confirms 10 dead, 47 injured

The Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has visited victims of Boko Haram attacks in two hospitals on Wednesday.

The Boko Haram terrorists fired shots from a Rocket Propelled Grenades at residents in Maiduguri on Tuesday, which killed 10 residents and 47 others injured.

Most of the deaths occurred in Gwange. One of the RPG shots, hit a children’s playground in Gwange, it was also gathered.

Zulum condemned the attacks during his empathy visits to the State Specialist Hospital, and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, both in Maiduguri, where he directed the state ministry of health to handle the bills.

“Indeed it is a very sad moment for the people and government of Borno state, about 60 persons were affected, among them, 10 have died. It was as a result of long-distance shots fired by the insurgents.

“I believe this is a new trend we have to raise up and stop. We experienced a similar incident exactly one year ago. The solution is to deploy an appropriate form of technology, which will have to work on.

“I share the pains of all those affected but we are not just visiting hospitals, we do so much behind the scene in our combined responses to the Boko Haram insurgency and we will keep making these and more efforts,” Zulum said.

The Governor, speaking on the military’s regain of Marte, which was subdued by Boko Haram a few days ago said, he was optimistic that the Nigerian military will ensure that the peace-building and stability efforts they have engaged in that zone will remain and that insurgents do not take Marte again, or any part of the state.

“I am optimistic that the insurgents will not take over Marte again,” he added.

Two witch-doctors arrested for allegedly raping student who came to ask for charm to stop boyfriend’s cheating

 Two witchdoctors have been arrested in Mitooma district of Uganda for allegedly raping a female student of Kampala International University (KIU) and stealing Shs2.9 million from her.

The victim had reportedly gone to the witchdoctors’ shrine to ask for a charm to stop her boyfriend from dating another girl.

 The suspects were identified by the Spokesperson of the Greater Bushenyi Regional Police, Martial Tumusiime as Nazario Bazarwa, 72, and his assistant, David Bamwetaki, all residents of Nyantoma parish Kashenshero sub-county in Mitooma district.

 According to the police spokesman, the two men told the student to spend the night in the shrine and that medicine would be administered in her private part the following morning.

 However, during the night, the duo reportedly turned on the girl and raped her.

 He also said that the two have been charged with rape and obtaining money by false pretence and the file is already at state attorney’s office.
