Confirmation Of Eze Imo: Uzodinma Dashes Hope Of Ezes, Says Interest On Security Not Leadership

Expectations of Imo State Traditional Rulers particularly, HRH Eze Emma Okeke as well as his supporters were caught short last Monday by the Imo State Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma who was expected to hit the nail on the head last Monday by announcing or confirming the new Chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers.

Governor Uzodinma who met the Traditional Rulers at their State Secretariat dashed the hope of the Ezes who were inquisitive of knowing who takes over the Shephard of Imo Traditional Rulers had their hopes dashed when the Governor informed them that his interest at the moment was on how to boost the community policing and not who chairs the traditional Institution in the state while admitting that he has the powers to choose any person he likes for the seat.

Imo State House of Assembly had a few months ago, repealed the law made by their predecessors which vested the power to elect or select the chairman of the Traditional Rulers by they themselves and vested the power to the Governor to do so

Senator Hope Uzodinma Imo State Governor who for the first time called for a meeting with all royal fathers in Imo at Eze Imo Palace, Mbari in Owerri has dropped the community Govt. Council system that set up president generals as heads of the CGC. In its place, the governor ordered the dissolution of all town unions mandating traditional rulers to select who becomes the new President general in a fresh election in their community.

The Governor observed that most of our sons and daughters from abroad seldom sleep in the villages due to criminals and poor security operations. He disclosed that the new community policy concept is to be introduced to flush out criminal elements in society. Senator Uzodinma charged all royal fathers to take full charge of governance and headship of their respective communities with a mandate to reside in their dolmen. In his words, no more part-time Ezes as any Eze who fails to perform will be suspended. The governor used the opportunity to inform the Royal fathers that selection of who becomes the New Eze Imo remains his prerogative, even as he kept quiet on who the cap fits at the moment.

Gov. Uzodinma solicited for co-operation and support of the royal fathers as he told them to do away with sycophancy. He charged them to always advise him whenever he as governor derails. He assured the Eze that their welfare and that of Imolites is uppermost in his mind, hence the stress of Ndieze coming to Owerri or zonal offices for their stipends is replaced with bank alerts.

Earlier in an opening address, the Special Adviser on Local govt and chieftaincy matters, Chief (Mrs.) Ruby Uchenna Emele lauded the royal fathers for honoring the invitation. Mrs. Emele observed with delight, the giant strides of the Uzodinma’s govt under 100 days in spite of the global pandemic Covid-19 with its dry economy. She said senator Hope Uzodinma has ensured that normalcy is restored at LGAs. According to the Isiala-Mbano woman politicians and technocrat the shared prosperity govt in Imo today fought tactfully the Covid-19 pandemic through pro-active measures that have made Imo State almost free from the pandemic. She urged all Imolites to support this govt for there is hope in Senator Hope Uzodinma’s leadership of the state. Some traditional rulers who spoke at the event poured their hearts. HRH Eze Dr. Bonny Ikenna Egwuogu (Ph.D.) Uloano Ndugba told the crowd that Ezes are those that must offer sincere advice to governors as they are sacred and apolitical. He berated Royal Fathers that acted as Alter boys to the former Governor, Rochas Okorocha’s Government. In his words, royal fathers are those that must drive govt policies and programs at grassroots. But not as stooges to the governor.

Also speaking, the traditional ruler of Owugha Alike Obowu, HRH Eze Gody Okeke lauded the New vision of Gov. Hope Uzodinma on New Community Policing. He said royal fathers are the key leaders that will drive the community policing to a success.
