… Accuse Police Of Collecting N100, Army N200 Per Drop As “Roja”
Thursday, August 20 may have come and gone but may not be forgotten by commuters as well as citizens of Orlu and Ideato nation as a day in which workers, Market women, Doctors amongst others freedom of movement was abridged by Commuters who mounted Road Block for hours protesting alleged extortion of money by security Agencies such as police and soldiers.
Our reporter who covered the event reported that between the hours of 6 in the morning to 5 in the evening, there was no movement of both motorists and pedestrians as commuters block the Road leading from Orlu to Ideato North and South carrying placards of varying inscriptions depicting their grievances over the alleged extortion by Security Agencies.
Addressing the press during the protest, the Vice Chairman of Drivers Association, Donatus Isiohia alleged that the soldiers in the said route were collecting two hundred naira per drop while policemen in the same route collect N100 per drop from the drivers.
According to Isioha, the drivers in the route go home virtually empty after making daily payment at the loading parks and deposit others to the security Agencies on the road.
The chairman who used the forum to appeal with the state government to call the security Agencies to order disclosed the readiness of the Drivers to block the road again if the security agencies fail to have a change of attitude.
When contacted to ascertain the stand of police on the allegation, the police public relations officer, Orlando Ikoku said he would confirm the story.
