… 21 Members Impeach Speaker

… Accuse Him Of Embezzling N38m Monthly

Friday, 13 November may have come and gone but the memory may remain green in the annals of the soil of Imo state House of Assembly as a day, the speaker of the Imo 9th House of Assembly Rt Hon Chiji Collins was impeached by virtually all the members of his party, the ruling APC.

Impeachment Of Rt Hon Chiji Collins which took place yesterday can best be described as evaporation of bottled anger by his colleagues particularly, those with him in the ruling APC who believed that he had failed in carrying them along in the scheme of things.

It was a very tensed hours when the police, operation search and flush blocked the entrance of the temporary Imo Assembly complex, ceased movement of human and vehicles while the House members, numbering 19 were at the plenary where the speaker was impeached in line with the laid down rules of the state House of Assembly.

Lead Saturday gathered that out of twenty-one House members who signed the impeachment notice, nineteen were present at yesterday’s plenary.

Rt Hon Chiji Collins who came to the 9th House of Assembly as speaker won his election as Isiala Mbano representative under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance has been accused of various conducts, ranging from alleged certificate forgery among others but appeared to have defeated his opponents who wanted to ruin his political career through such, hence nothing has been said about those allegations as at the time of this report by the appropriate authorities.

The least is yet to be heard in Imo State House of Assembly as 19 out of twenty-seven House of Assembly Members, had yesterday Friday 13th November, impeached the speaker, Rt. Hon. Chiji Collins.

Our reporter who covered the plenary revealed that by some minutes past 2 pm,  House of Assembly Members numbering 19, 18 out of the number were APC members while one was a PDP member gathered at the temporary Imo State house of Assembly Complex in New Owerri where motion was moved for the impeachment of the speaker over alleged embezzlement of thirty-eight million naira, every month which according to them is a leftover of the total cost for the running house of Assembly.

While the member representing Ideato North state Assembly, Hon. Arthur Egwim moved the motion for the impeachment of the speaker over alleged misappropriation of fund, the said motion was seconded by Hon. Kanayo Onyemachi the member representing Owerri West.

Similarly, member representing Orsu State Constituency, Hon. Nnodimele moved a second motion supporting the said impeachment after dwelling on alleged embezzlement of funds by the out-gone speaker.

Our reporter further revealed that Hon. Okey Onyekanma, Member Representing in the house of assembly and a PDP member was present during the impeachment while another PDP member, Anyadike was said to be present during the presentation of the new speaker to the government while the plenary was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chyna Iwuanyanwu.

Speaking with lead newspapers, one of the ranking members in the 9th Assembly who would not want in name in print revealed that the out-gone speaker in addition to alleged embezzlement that Chiji Collins does not have the capacity to control the House members, as the speaker.

According to him, the speaker would have been before now impeached if not for the timely interventions of the Governor Senator Uzodinma as well as other stakeholders in the state.

BREAKING: Army renames Operation Lafiya Dole in North-East

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, has approved the renaming of the ongoing counterinsurgency operation in the North-East from Operation Lafiya Dole to Operation Hadin Kai, the Nigerian Army has said.

This was contained in statement on Friday signed by Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima.

The statement was titled, ‘Nigerian Army Renames Operation In The North East, Seeks Inclusiveness’.

It read, “The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru has approved the renaming of the ongoing Counterinsurgency Operation in the North East from Operation Lafiya Dole to Operation Hadin Kai.

“This is premised on the fact that the Nigerian Army has made a lot of progress over the years and needs to re-align for better efficiency.

“Also affected in the re-designation are the Army Super Camps which now reflect the nomenclature of the formations and units followed by the name of the locations they occupy while sub-units are redesigned as Forward Operating Bases followed by the name of their locations. All these changes are with immediate effect.

“The renaming is in line with the COAS Vision of having ‘A Nigerian Army that is Repositioned to Professionally Defeat all Adversaries in a Joint Environment’.

BREAKING: Five dead as gunmen set ablaze Imo police area command

Tension heightened in Imo State, on Monday, as unknown gunmen razed the Okigwe South Police Area Command situated in Orieagu in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

A police officer at the headquarters, who spoke to our correspondent in the evening, said that on arrival, the gunmen opened fire on the cops who challenged them.

It was learnt that the invaders freed all the suspects in the cells and carted away arms.

The source said that no fewer than five policemen were shot dead by the attackers as they torch the security facility.

The source said, “Our area command headquarters in Okigwe south is on fire. Six policemen shot dead. They also freed the suspects before igniting a fire on the facility.”

When contacted, the police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, said that five policemen were killed while one was missing during the attack.

He disclosed that the command had launched an investigation into the onslaught.

Uzodinma’s guest house set ablaze

Guest House of Imo state Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma was this morning set ablaze.

Information to the Lead Newspapers revealed that yet to be identified group of men stormed the House of a suspected IPOB member at Awomama in Oru East LGA, the country home of the Governor for possible arrest and allegedly set his House ablaze when they could not see him.

The said group allegedly set ablaze another HOUSE belonging to the younger brother of same suspected IPOB member.

Upon hearing this, group of gun men stormed the scene and when they could not find the said persons responsible for the act, they proceeded to the Governor’s house where they shot sporadically and set ablaze the Governor’s guest house Lead gathered.
