While INEC is yet to come up with a date for Imo North Senatorial election re-run, Senator Athan Achonu will in no distant time dump the PDP for APC with the intention of running for the said seat.
Source from the government House revealed to Lead that Achonu is likely going to receive governor Uzodinma’s nod for the Senate election re-run which the date is yet to be fixed by INEC.
Senator Achonu who won the senatorial election of Imo North in 2015 was before the elapse of his tenure had his mandate terminated by the court on the ground that one of the political parties that participated in the election had its logo not included in Ballot and INEC was instructed to conduct another election which late Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu won.
However, Lead gathered that fear of the unknown has gripped the senatorial aspirants in APC following the alleged plot to support Achonu by the Imo State Governor, Senator Uzodinma who is the leader of the party in Imo and South East.
Immediately after the burial of Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, Okigwe Leaders held a meeting at the instance of Tony Chukwu with the notion to adopt a consensus candidate for the said seat but the aim of the meeting was not achieved as people insisted on a level playing ground for all aspirants.
While senator Ararume who recently returned to APC in the company of his numerous supporters is yet to make his interest known over the race.
In the same vein, Eze Okoro, former SSG in Imo, Mark Uchendu, has declared their interest to run for the said seat under the platform of the APC.
