Another Trouble In Imo Assembly

… PDP Members Boycott Sittings Twice

…. Accuse Govt Of Increasing 50% Allowances of APC Members

Another Trouble In Imo Assembly As PDP Members Boycott Sitting Twice, Accuse Govt of 50 percent Increase Allowance of APC.

While members of the Imo House of Assembly particularly the opposition members of PDP and Imo people in general are yet come out of the shock of sudden impeachment of the immediate former speaker of the House, Rt Hon chiji collins, another trouble appears to have enveloped the House following boycott of the sitting by the minority PDP members twice in a week.

The seven PDP House of Assembly members had on wednesday November 25 boycotted sitting as well as on Thursday November 26.

Our reporter who monitored the sittings reported that PDP members were conspicuously absent from the two sittings while the House carried on their sitting precided over by the new speaker, Rt Hon Paul Emeziem.

Few weeks ago, the media was awash of how serving House of Assembly, member representing Orlu state constituency in Imo House of Assembly, Hon paschal Okolie dumped the ruling APC for the opposition party, the PDP.

Defection of the said House member who is from same federal constituency was greeted with varying reactions.

While some questioned the rationale behind how a House member would dump a ruling party for the opposition with its attendant consequences, others viewed it as a mark of possible integrity.

Although the House member up till the time of filing this report had not given any reason behind his leaving the APC speculations are rife that it may not be out of nonsatisfaction with the style of the present administration.

However, the defection of the said Orlu House member from the APC to the PDP appeared to open the camel’s back as another nine House of Assembly members of the APC extraction were said to have concluded arrangements to dump the same APC before the sudden impeachment of the immediate former speaker, Rt Hon hijinks collins

Information to Lead revealed that part of the reasons behind the impeachment of Chiji was to get a speaker who has the capacity to control the House to avoid further decamps since Chiji allegedly never had the control of the House members.

This paper gathered that following the pressure and accounts monitoring of the APC House members to ascertain when they, the APC members would have the said money credited into their individual Accounts, Imo state Government made a u-turn, and instead of paying the said money into their Accounts, the clerk of the House allegedly withdrew the whole sums and paid the members by handpicking with the Lead, one of the PDP  House members who would not want his name in print condemned the said increment in the allowances of the APC members pointing out that as House members, they were elected by their various constituents wondering how and why the Imo state Government led by Senator Hope Uzodinma would choose to increase the allowances of only the APC members

He however, revealed that PDP members would continue boycotting sittings until the arrangement is reversed.

He pointed out that the constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria allows for multi party system adding that the state Government should not coarse them into joining the APC.

Herdsmen attacks: Seyi Makinde seems to be paralysed by fear, says sports minister

Following the various alleged attacks in various parts of the states in Nigeria wherein Oyo state is experiencing the same heat, Mr  Sunday Dare,  Minister of Youth and Sports Development, has advised Seyi Makinde the Governor of Oyo State, to be more proactive and decisive in tackling the security situation in the state.

In a statement on Monday, Dare implied that the governor is too scared to take a decision that would protect the indigenes of his state from attacks.

There had been reports of alleged attacks, that some Fulani were kidnapping, killing, and raping residents in Ibarapa area of the state

Sunday Dare urged the governor to seek assistance from states and non-state actors and stop “responding out of fear that his political status is being damaged”.

Part of the statement termed, ‘Minister wants Makinde to be more decisive on security’, read, “For several months, citizens of Oyo state have watched with increasing concern as the security situation in our beloved state degenerated. Troubling accounts about killings, kidnappings, and herdsmen versus farmers conflicts abound.

Like all the people of Oyo State, I expected the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde to act fast and prudently but with reasonable dispatch to quell the security situation before it got out of hand.

We all waited for proactive steps and responses from the state authority, but certainly in vain.

“Governor Makinde seems to be paralysed by fear regarding this important security situation. This is the first serious test of his leadership in the state.

“Instead of tackling it, he has retreated. His policy has not been proactive enough to resolve the issues so that the protection of lives will be guaranteed and our people spared the mourning over dead ones.

Instead, his policy has been to act as if nothing was happening in forlorn hope that all would simply go away as if it were a bad dream.”

“The worsening developments in the state in the area of security are a direct result of a temporizing fiddling leader.

The Governor has paid more lip service to the issue of security instead of offering solutions or taking proactive steps to stem the attacks and chart the path of resolution.

For this is a complex issue that requires political courage and vision to resolve.”

South West warning over Fulani Treatment by Coalition of Northern Groups

The Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG, called for all northern people in the south west to return peacefully to their homes before deciding the next step.

The spokesperson for CNG, Suleiman Abdul-Azeez, opined that the warning to herdsmen in the southwest was related to a grand design to destabilize Nigeria and, in particular, to push the North to its knees. The party warned that any violence or abuse would be returned. The enemies of the North sought to ensure that the region remained backward, fragmented, vulnerable, frustrated and bewildered by a multitude of challenges and problems.

In a statement, “We certainly don’t consider it an isolated incident but linked to a grand design to destabilize Nigeria and in particular bring the North to its knees by targeting a major component of its population, the Fulani and their livestock assets.”

“Today everyone can see a clear pattern drawn from the strategies employed to achieve these results; namely the diminishing of the Northern viability and in particular, bringing the Hausa/Fulani population down by direct annihilation or political and economic incapacitation.”

“We wonder how the Presidency and the National Assembly would have reacted, were the North to make such against other tribes and people that are non-indigenous but live and flourish in the North and actually carry out the threat,” the statement observed.

“No matter through which lenses we look, therefore, we only see in this fast-phased agenda a manifestation of a system that tends to deploy a warped application of the law solely for the protection of a certain category of citizens and endangering others.

“This manifestation of gross inequity is also one that portends the danger of even more grave conflicts,” explaining further.
