Abandoned Nekede Road Re-echoes As Prophet leads Protest To Site

Published

A few weeks ago, the member representing Owerri West Local Government in Imo House of Assembly, Hon. Kanayo Onyemachi appealed to the people of Owerri West particularly, the Nekede people to exercise a little patience with the state Government assuring them that sooner than later, the contractors assigned the Road would resume work on the said Road.

Kanayo was reacting to a sort of complaints by the people of Owerri west as well as the Users of the Road who accused the state Government of abandoning a road which contract had been awarded by the Ihedioha led administration.

The House of Assembly member, however, pointed out that the contractors upon witnessing a change of Government, abandoned the said Road adding that Uzodinma’s administration had met with the contractors, assuring that they had entered into an agreement with the state Government to return to the site as soon as possible.

While the people are still waiting for the contractors to return to the site, the people of Nekede amongst other numerous Road Users led by the pastor of Miraculous Deliverance Gospel Mission, Dom Daniel Anyanwu had last Monday led a protest to the site while calling on the Powers that Be to come to the rescue of the people.

A popular Owerri based pastor, Prophet Dom Daniel Anyanwu on Monday 19th October 2020 led an unprecedented mass protest on the ever deplorable  Nekede / Ihiagwa road to express the woes and sufferings of users of the road. This is coming on THE hills of similar protests over the all-important road that leads to two federal higher institutions via Federal Polytechnic Nekede and the Federal University of Technology Owerri among other institutions and communities.

The protesters which include indigenes and tenants in the affected communities, students, and road transport workers flooded the road, chanting songs of frustration, call on the state government to come to their rescue as life in the area has become miserable as a result of the horrible state of the road. The protest strangulated social and economic activities along the road.
