3 Months After Inauguration, Uzodinma Yet To Assign Aides To Deputy Governor

The delay in assigning Aides to Imo State Deputy Governor Placid Njoku by Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodinma three months after assumption of office as the executive governor of Imo State has to a reasonable extent rendered the office of the number two citizen redundant.

This is even as the staff of the office finds it difficult to even come to work since there is yet to be a leader in the office.

Governor Hope Uzodinma was sworn in as the executive Governor of Imo State on January 15th after the ouster of his predecessor, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha by the Supreme Court of Nigeria in what was described by the majority as a landmark judgment.

The supreme court of Nigeria had on January 14 removed Ihedioha as the governor of Imo State on the ground that his declaration by INEC as the winner of the March 9th Governorship election in Imo was wrongly done and in his stead, Uzodinma was declared the actual winner of the said election.

Uzodinma upon assumption of office immediately commenced governance but has not assigned Aides to his Deputy, Professor Placid Njoku, an act which has rendered the office ineffective.

A source from the government house revealed to the Lead that some of the key positions in the office of the Deputy Governor such as the office of the Chief of staff media amongst others are occupied by persons on acting capacities which the Deputy has not officially informed the workers that they are in the active capacity and this as hinted by the source has led to unseriousness amongst the workers.

Speaking to Lead, one of the governor’s appointees who would not want his name in print revealed that Governor Uzodinma appears more interested in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic hence all aspects of governance receive little or no attention.

According to him, there are other good programmes which the governor has in stock for Imo people but given this Covid-19 scourge which has been ravaging the world, Uzodinma now focuses on the fight against it.

The Imo State Government in the bid to ensure that the dreaded epidemic does not spread in Imo has unveiled six isolation centers in the state, distributed relief materials amongst others in Imo the state.
